This is a well run, well kept, typical Italian restaurant which is popular with locals, always a good sign, and where English is spoken. We booked this, by email, on the strength on TA reviews and were not disappointed. It is a traditional trattoria (but...so much better than many) and yes, it is a local restaurant but why go to Italy if you don't want to be with Italians? The chef-patron greets you, as do other staff, as you walk past the kitchen on entry. The restaurant is one large room with subtle dividers between tables and the usual bright lights, but thankfully no television. We were welcomed with an amuse bouche and a glass of prosecco, not typical in our experience, followed by a very good meal. All around us were mainly Italians enjoying the food and the comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. It is situated on a corner and adjacent is a large car park. An excellent restaurant of its type.More

Away from the seafront and main part of Sestri and very much a 'locals' rather than tourist establishment (always a good sign) but despite the unassuming location this establishment served up a memorable lunch. Just great ingredients, simple but skillful cooking, correct and friendly service...and fair pricing. For me these are all the ingredients for an excellent restaurant. As Michelin would say 'worth a detour'.More

The family that owns this seven-year old restaurant was born to be in the business. Vittorio and staff afford a superb, if not very simple, experience in Italian food. There is nothing pretentious here and no necessity to attract tourists. Tannino is a locals place....Yet, a great effort was made by all the staff to speak English when needed and they did it graciously and with gusto. My husband had octopus soup followed by roasted rabbit in herbs. I had a filet of beef with gorgonzola and walnut sauce. All outstanding and served with pride. The wine list here is extraordinary and features reds and whites from all over Italy. An extra was the gratis parking lot across the street, although I have to say that if we had to walk a mile from our car, I would do it to eat again at Tannino.....More

If you are in SL, you've got to make a reservation to go here. I brought a group of 16 and asked the owner, Vittorio, to put together a menu for us. It was absolutely oustanding. The food was fantastic. Two women in my group...were able to get their risotto recipe (with shrimp and lemon); maybe the best single dish of a 2-week trip in Italy. The young women serving were so helpful and kind. It is not right downtown, but maybe 20 minutes walk max from the historic center. A great restaurant with great people!More

Excellent menu. Try the rabbit with linguine - one of the best dishes we have eaten in Italy. The fish ravioli with mussels and the stuffed rabbit where also excellent. Huge variety of wines.

My wife and I had reserved a table and were warmly greeted by Vittorio. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance--warm and comfortable. Service by both Francesca and Vittorio was excellent. We were treated to a glass of prosecco and a delicious amuse. For starters...we had the pansoti and the tartare, followed by the veal cheeks and the shellfish soup--a large bowl of lobster, prawns, shrimp, mussels and clams. All of the food was great. Very good value. At the end of our meal, Vittorio was kind enough to help us get a taxi back to our hotel. All in all, a great evening.More

It is a good sign already, that most assessments are in Italian. We came as tourists and were greeted friendly, no complaints about ordering only one plate per person and drinking no wine. Congratulations to the cuisine, we loved everything we tasted and can especially...recommend the desserts (see the picture of my meringue pie and the apple pie was even better).More
