We enjoyed a generally good meal (with the exception of the eggplant antipasto which was cold - this was by far the most disappointing part of the actual meal). We showed up (at the spectacular location and terrace) dressed as requested only to be surprised to see two girls with shorts and flipflops. Another negative was that we felt rushed by the staff eager to turn around tables for the next customer. Generally I felt the staff not very warm and the place too pretentious - we found much better with just as nice of a view and cheaper in Positano.

This restaurant has a special advantage of being accessible from the Main Street, but at the same time it is quiet and enjoys a beautiful view of the sea, since it is on the 2nd floor of the Poseidon hotel. The food is excellent and of very high quality. The service is professional and kind. All the food we ordered (we’ve been here twice and tried different dishes) was delicious and very nicely served. Don’t miss the key lemon desert - it was definitely the best one we ate during this visit in the Amalfi Coast!

Wonderful setting, beautiful views and ambiance.
At the end of a long uphill walk from the beach we were wowed by Il Tridente.
The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious but very small portions. We are not big eaters and my daughter and I are around 50kg in weight but we were left rather less than full and the restaurant is pretty pricey.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this one. The most obvious selling point is the outstanding view and setting at the restaurant; it's lovely to watch the lights change over Positano as the sun sets.
Our hotel helped us make a dinner reservation two weeks in advance - this restaurant came highly recommended. We arrived to a slightly cold greeting and directed upstairs to the restaurant where we were literally the first to arrive for dinner. They directed us to a table one row away from the railing where the best view was and I asked if instead we could sit at the other tables, given that the restaurant was empty. They declined our request to sit at the tables by the railing overlooking the view, stating that they couldn't configure those tables for 3. I was a bit puzzled as the tables seemed the same size and I thought I saw in the pictures some of the tables had 3 seats at them, but fair enough, they would know their restaurant best I suppose.
The food was fine. They cautioned us the pasta was served al dente, which is expected and we were fine with - it's fairly normal most places we go , even at home. I'll note that I found the pasta a little too underdone for our tastes though - there was a very visible white line throughout the center. Some may prefer this. For those wondering, Il Tridente is more expensive than other restaurants in the area, but if you're from cities like London, NY, or SF it's a little less than/fairly average.
I think what made me a little uncomfortable with this restaurant is the service. From the reception in the lobby to when we arrived at the restaurant, sat down and ordered, we found most that we interacted with a bit supercilious. There was one waiter who would somewhat mockingly repeat things in Italian (that he said to us in English) as he either set our plates down or took it away. It's was a bit funny and one time I smiled at him as he did so. While I'm not at all fluent, I did live in Italy for a short period and understand basic Italian. I think he realized I understood what he was saying because he stopped doing it!
Lastly, I think if I were to return I would try the bar. It seems like many of those seats have even better views than the restaurant!

Words can’t properly explain how grateful we are to have chosen Il Tridente restaurant and the Hotel Poseidon for our wedding lunch. This place is not only about thoughtful design, breathtaking views and highly rated Mediterranean food (which was basically our reason to chose it in the first place!), but mainly about PEOPLE.
Our initial correspondence was very smooth and friendly with a very prompt response. We were presented a variable options to choose from in regards to the table settings and food. We had asked whether it would be possible to apply some of our regional traditions to the day, what was responded to with the biggest enthusiasm and genuine curiosity. We had quite a few requests that were outside of the offering and every single one of them got handled with the kindest manner.
When it came to the day itself, it absolutely went beyond our biggest expectations. From the moment you walk in, to the very last second of your stay, you’re surrounded by the most genuine and loveliest human beings. The team that had looked after us and our family and friends, made us feel the most special. Food and drink is absolutely divine, and the views are one of most spectacular on the coast.
Place has got a beautiful combination of what you look for in Italian hospitality as well as a romantic and very cheerful ambience.
I also would like to underline that everything was handled with the respect for the Covid safety guidelines, but simultaneously didn’t feel inconvenient in any sense.
I will recommend this place to anyone with any hospitality need, and I am certain that you will be treated in an equally same way, no matter what’s the purpose of your visit.

We came here on our first evening in Positano. Unfortunately we couldn't sit outside as the weather wasn't good enough but there was a nice ambience inside. We had delicious food and the waiters were very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. It was a lovely dining experience. I would highly recommend

We stayed at Hotel Poseidon for our last night in Positano and we were fortunate to have secured a reservation at Il Tridente.
We had a wonderful evening. The food was fantastic, with great flavours in each of the dishes my wife and I had. The service to go with the food is superb; equally personable and attentive and we had recommendations on what to eat.
We had a few very average and fairly expensive meals prior so we were starting to lose hope on quality of food in Positano. However, our visit here was great and we would visit again.
The views are incredible also.
Thanks to all the staff who do a fantastic job of making each diner feel welcome and well caree for.

Had an excellent dinner at Il Tridente. The atmosphere was great, with live music and our waiter Michel was attentive, knowledgable, and friendly. He and the other waiters made it a fun and informative evening. He introduced us to a lemon tea from the area named "Canarino" that we are now making at home. Would recommend eating here during your stay in Positano!

It was an amazing experience to have my birthday dinner at this restaurant. Not only the food was super delicious (needless to say that the view from the terrace was absolutely stunning), but also all people who were working there were extremely lovely. Specially want to thank Liliana who was really super nice from my first call to the restaurant to the time we came to the restaurant. Thank you so much! For sure I will be back and will recommend this place to everyone.

This restaurant really has it all. The perfect view. The perfect staff. The perfect food. After visiting Michelin restaurants and perfect spots all over Italy this restaurant sticks with me the most. My husband totally agreed. The waiters greet you with elegance and humorous jokes-not too much but not too little. They respond elegantly to every request. The view was really something. Super romantic.
The food was really really good and their lemon delight is out of this world. Go here if this is your only night in Positano. You won’t regret it!

We had a reservation for seven adults. We were excited about enjoying a beautiful dinner here. Our waiter was very impatient with our orders. He did not service by courses as presented on menu. Our wine was served in glasses that were hot. We had to send back. When they brought new glasses of wine it looked like they had simply used hot glasses again and rinsed the bowls in cold water as the stems were hot as in right out of dishwasher. We waited forty five minutes for the bill asking three different people for our check. We also asked for an itemized check as were were suddenly concerned that there may have been errors since they were being very dismissive when we asked for the bill. Fortunately the bill was correct When we finally received the bill after five requests in a 45 min time period and paid for it, the workers at the restaurant laughed when we left for requesting and itemized bill. We know this to be true as a person in our party did not walk out with us and they did not see her. They were talking about our dinner party to workers and another customer. Very unprofessional and inappropriate. There other restaurants in this community to spend money and enjoy a beautiful Italian meal at the sea. I do not recommend this establishment.

Dear Lori, it's with great surprise that we read this review. We do not recall any tables for 7 adults since last month's reopening, nor could we possibly present a "non-itemized" check, as it is an automatic process of printing, nor we are at the sea as you mentioned.
This being said, I am sure this review does not belong to our restaurant, but from our side, we do hope to welcome you here one day to live a real "Il Tridente" experience - and we hope it won't disappoint :)

Il Tridente located in the Hotel Poseidon is one of the best if not the best of the many restaurants visited while in Positano. The Staff are fantastic , and Chef has been there many years and is always offering variety of exciting and tasty dishes to suit all. If in Positano this is a must location for lunch or dinner

We tried to get some dinner here during our trip but it was fully booked. We were lucky to get a reservation on our final night. It was amazing. Although it is pricey, you get what you pay for. The waiters are extremely bubbly and interested in your experience. We both had the sirloin steak, it was cooked to perfection. The nicest steak we have ever had. For dessert we had the dark chocolate coolant (fondant) it was also delicious. We stayed after our meal for some cocktails which were fab, the view was breathtaking and the vibe was good.

If I'm eating just the food it would honestly be a 1, but due to the service and the view it has to be a 3. I will tell you that what you are paying for is a view. Not a meal. I was extremely excited to try their dishes and looked forward to having an amazing Italian dinner with the beautiful view of Positano. The food was extremely lacking in flavor, to my disappointment. Their bread selection was probably the best part of the whole meal. For a start, we tried the fried zucchini flowers. The batter tasted too eggy to me and the tomato mayo tasted like nothing. I ordered the linguine with eggplant and pistachio pesto. There was no eggplant to be found in the dish, I can only assume a small amount is blended into the sauce. It tasted of butter and not much else. It lacked a strong basil flavor and needed garlic and salt. My partner ordered the pasta with lobster. It was actually quite good, the lobster was cooked very well. It was a very small portion of lobster (only half of the tail and 2 tiiiinnny claws stuffed into the shell with the tail) for the $35 price. Overall, just don't expect a high quality meal when they don't need to give one since customers will come time and time again due to the view. The wait staff was extremely attentive and very kind. The hotel and the view are beautiful and an amazing experience. I'd recommend getting dinner somewhere else and coming there for the cocktail bar (which actually has a bit of a better view than the restaurant seating if you ask me!)

We booked a table at the rooftop cocktail bar, planning to have a few drinks and then take it form there. We ended up staying most of the night. The setting is otherworldly, positioned right over the beach and sea in the heart of Positano. The waiters were so charming and accommodating and engaging and definitely added to the fun our evening. They provide you with so many multiple complimentary snacks while you have your drinks that we barely needed to eat dinner. We did order one of their "bar food" combinations and it was spectacularly presented, delicious and more than adequate for a meal for both of us for the evening. This was our favorite night out in Positano. We will remember it for a long time.
