Wine Bar & Bistro in the heart of the old town, it's located in Piazza San Francesco, famous for the stunning view on the valley and on San Biagio Church. "E lucevan le stelle" is open for lunch, apéritifs and dinner, offering a unique location in town for admiring the incredible sunsets on the valley. First of all, excellent welcome: the only place where we could sit without a reservation and due to the cold they even managed to find us a table inside. Nice environment with lots of wines and vintage objects. The young but competent staff who accompanied us during dinner, always attentive to the fact that everything was going well. The mixed bruschetta and the platter of various types of local pecorino, accompanied by honey and compotes, are very good. The first courses are good, the wine recommended among the hundreds of labels is excellent. A very pleasant evening

Montepulciano offers many outstanding dining experiences. One that should not be missed is E Lucevan le Stelle (named from the famous aria from the opera Tosca), not only for the food but also for the stellar location. It sits on a platform on Piazza San Francesco, not far from Piazza Grande. Arrive an hour or so before sunset (reservations on the deck are highly recommended) and watch as the sun descends behind the Tuscan hills, illuminating the glorious countryside. You can even take your drink over to a low wall for even better views. But E Lucevan is also about food. We had 2 entrees, two large salads, water and wine for about 45 Euros. We returned without a reservation and were able to sit at a charming bar along one wall with the same exceptional views. Every visit to Montepulciano should include at least one visit to E Lucevan.

This is a fabulous wine bar, which happens to serve great ravioli for dinner which is what we all ordered. We noticed a lot of locals drinking, eating here, which is always a good sign. The tables on their scenic terrace are extremely popular, so we had the concierge at our hotel make us a reservation, because we had read/ heard the sunsets on that terrace are breathtaking. That is absolutely correct. (See our photos attached.) We finished with glasses of vin santo and biscotti….dip your biscotti into the wine. It’s incredible for dessert. If you are visiting, Montepulciano, don’t miss this place at sunset.

We went to this place for an aperitif and dinner. We ordered two glasses and while they brought olives/chips/peanuts to all the surrounding tables, they were not brought to us because we had ordered two bruschettas to have later. I then asked the guy (I think the owner) if we could have some too and he replied that they had run out of trays. Subsequently we ordered pici but the ragù in our opinion was not of good quality. When we got the bill we realized that he was charging us for one more glass than we had taken. Owner not very courteous especially towards tourists. Despite all this, a very beautiful view just a few steps from the walls to enjoy the view.

On holiday, passing through Montepulciano, we decide to go and eat, choosing the "...e lucevan le stelle" bistro in a street full of tourist eateries.
-Elegant but not demanding
-smiling and kind service
- pici (typical dish) also tasted by my children who do not have an easy palate
-excellent wine (noble red) of which I also bought a bottle
- coffee at its best
The background music is truly remarkable.
Highly recommended.

I'd probably avoid if you are not Italian.
The waitress that greeted us was very kind and pleasant. However, the other
guy who I can only assume is the manger (if he's not, someone needs to speak to him) who came over and asked for our drinks, was the rudest person on our whole trip.
I've never been spoke to so poorly before, I asked for a couple of dishes in Italian.
He tried to make me re-print it over and over. Our group went to use the toilet and in front of the restaurant he challenged them. Asking if they were guests.
If it wasn't for the guy in a shirt, I would recommend this place, however just to be clear the area is looking over a packed car park

We made reservations at this restaurant for a very busy night in Montepulciano, but when we arrived, they initially could not find it. When they finally did, they seated us on their lovely terrace and provided a free round of sparkling wine for the mishap. To top it all, the meal was absolutely lovely, as was the atmosphere and the view. Highly recommended,

Request Sebastian for your server!! He kept us laughing and entertained with the best recommendations! We let him pick our wine and we loved it! We ended up staying a little longer just to chat with him. Our service was fantastic, never waited for anything and he refilled my bread bag so I would have snacks on our long drive back to chianti region. lol Very cool place situated with fantastic views from the parking area that you can see when sitting outside. The interior has a cool vibe that invites you to just chill and enjoy the company. Cute little couch area or higher up seats to enjoy the view. Worth the walk up to where it is, which isn't even hard! Leave the tourist area and go here!

I really appreciated this experience even though we did not end up eating dinner here. I carried around an allergy card with me my entire time in Italy, and greatly appreciated that the server was honest and said that this kitchen could not guarantee that they could safely accommodate my nut allergy with the risk of cross contamination in their kitchen. We ended up coming back after dinner for a nightcap, because we really appreciated their honesty!

We were looking for a nice place to get of the heat and we found this gem at the top of the city. Hidden a bit, but oh, what a lovely, cosy place. The waiter was really nice, the food was yummy, the drinks were refreshing and the price for all was really reasonable. I highly recommend the place. Thanks guys, for a lovely experience. Keep on the good work.

Returned after three years and it was as wonderful as the first time. Service was great as was the wine selection. it is a lovely place to share a bottle of wine, the Friday we were there we were treated to live jazz. And the menu is simple but excellent.

E Lucevan le Stelle is a favorite spot among locals to grab a drink. It has such a great atmosphere and the patio has a view of the beautiful Tuscan hills. My friends and I would frequently meet up here before dinner for our aperitivo. Whenever you walk by, it’s always busy, which definitely speaks to the delicious drinks and beautiful atmosphere.

Nice and elegant location in the heart of Montepulciano. Nice and clean setting and furnishings.
Discreet service.
We drank wine: fair value for money, €20 per bottle of white.
Good for an aperitif with some friends.

We came here on the advice of our excellent apartment host and could not have been happier. We liked it so much we went back a second time. The food is incredible quality and the different ravioli's we had were little pillows of heaven! We also did a wine tasting one afternoon at the bar, it was great. I highly recommend a stop here either for a full dining experience or at the very least a snack and some vino Nobile at the bar.

My favorite place in Montepulciano to chill and watch the day go by. Obviously, they know their wine. Their daily wine specials on the chalk board are also excellent. And they won't make you feel bad if all you want is a spritz. Of course, sunsets are special because of the view. But the best thing about E Lucevan le Stelle are its people. The whole crew does a great job and are wonderful with both regulars and first-timers. They make you feel at home.
