Took my girlfriend for her birthday as a surprise, the views are priceless worth it alone, but the food was amazing and service fantastic. Would highly recommend and would go again.

Food average. Service poor. View is nice but is an extra charge and most people don't get a view I am told that it used to be a great place but now it has lost its shine.

Very frustrating experience Restaurant was suggested by a close friend of ours but service, flavours and ambiance was extremely inferior to our expectations. Rainy and cold night and behind our table was a huge gap in the wall of glass bringing lot of cold ....Cacio e pepe risotto had a peculiar sour flavour ( all 3 adults who ordered it had the same opinion) After 5 minutes we kindly mentioned that to the waiter and ordered other pasta The waiter asked us if … we have previous experience of this dish . Our answer was affirmative and of course different to that diagusting flavour and he came again 10 minutes later saying that the kitchen is closed and no further orders were accepted except for desert . Finally, risotto was shamelessly added to our bill! What a great disappointment ! We strongly discourage everyone from visiting this placeMore

We celebrated our wedding at il Gato Nero, The amazing owner Beba designed a truly dream event, with a perfect table, cake and setting, which will always remain in our memories, The team looked after us well and the food was delicious. We couldn't have...found anywhere better to celebrate our day. Beba's vision and design are truly outstanding. I want to thank them for all their hard work.More

This was our fourth visit over about 15 years and once more wasn’t disappointed. I had read last few reviews on TripAdvisor so was mindful may have been staff issue, but our experience was excellent, especially the staff. We were a family with 10 year...old and staff accommodated her simple dietary needs as well as making her a special Mocktail. They also had a laugh when we all played Uno between courses. For desert we just said we wanted Affogatos which weren’t on menu, but it was no problem. We had problems getting a taxi/private transfer from Como so they were very helpful especially with our return journey. Usually our hotel or agents make bookings for us so generally have pretty nice tables. In this case I just booked direct online but still happy with our table. We’ll be back again on next trip to Italy.More

I have just read so many of the poor to terrible reviews of this restaurant and sadly have to agree with them based on our visit tonight. Gorgeous view - but everywhere around Lake Como is beautiful. Very VERY slow service. You’re given a QR...code for the menu and wine list which instantly takes away from the type of experience you’re paying for. We asked for regular menus which were provided, but they were missing entire sections relative to the QR list. It was too dark to read them anyway. Music being played is loud mid-1970’s pop. Truly… Barry Manilow, Elton John, and Roberta Flack. Then almost jumped out of our chairs when they tripled the volume in order to deliver a birthday dessert to someone with small fireworks on top. If you go, enjoy the view. It’s spectacular. But don’t expect the elegance, food, or service consistent with the price.More

il Gatto Nero did not disappoint! My wife made a reservation ~6 weeks in advance of our trip to Como. We were treated to a table on the rail overlooking the hillside and lake. The dinner, wait staff, and view were all amazing (highly recommend...the smoked, tuna tartar as a first course). Thank you for the wonderful evening!More

We chose this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary but had terrible experience. The service was awful. Never got the wine menu so didn’t have wine with dinner because the sever kept forgetting (for 30 min) to bring the menu so we could order wine....She was very disorganized and other tables nearby were complaining as well. The pasta was mushy and a different male server only got very defensive and rude when we tried to tell him. He insisted the pasta was fine. Like I don’t know mushy pasta? And how could he know if my pasta was mushy? So I told him he should eat it himself if he was so sure. So we didn’t eat and actually left. They were supposed to take the pasta off the bill but didn’t. They also made a second unauthorized charge on our Amex so we will be disputing the bill to get the pasta taken off and to get the additional charge removed as well. When they saw this written in a different review, they sent some excuse in an e-mail saying that they confused our reservation with some other reservation and thought Villa D’Este had reserve our table. Villa D’Este mise certainly did reserve our table and even called to change the time for us the day before. When my husband told the manager how bad the service was, another party was leaving and said as they passed by, “The service sucked.” Which means it was awful. We shared a taxi back to Ville D’Este with two other couples, who also said they had terrible service and food. We do not recommend this restaurant and were very disappointed in how bad and RUDE the service was. Thanks a lot for ruining our anniversary, Il Gatto Nero. Get new management and new chef.More

We were unaware we needed to request lake vie when reservations were made over a month ago. The concierge at the hotel said he would call to request lake view but hostess said they did not have. They did however have that we were celebrating...50th anniversary. We were not given lake view table despite tables available. Hostess said they would not disappoint customers who requested lake view. We however did not matter to them and certainly disappointed us. No one even mentioned our 50th celebration. Other diners were in jeans, there were young children at tables. This is NOT a place for a romantic dinner. Hostess could have cared less about making our experience a memorable one.More

The restaurant is near Como but not walkable if staying in town. We went for what we heard were amazing views but unfortunately we got table at back behind too many tables to see anything. I’d recommend if going for view find out if you...can pre-request a table towards lake. Appeared to be 4 tops. There was a raised area way in back/street side that may have been better. The food was excellent, we tried appetizers as well as pasta and veal. Unfortunately the service was severely disappointing, never even got our bottle of wine after 2 asks. I can only assume since later reservation the server was trying to get us out quick. Simple things like leaving bread but no bread plates or olive oil to use. Kind of disappointing as it was the day of our 25th anniversary. Note I’d probably give them second try based on food. Hopefully it was just the server having bad day.More

Booked for the 3 of us by email 2 days before our dining experience. It was just my wife, young adult daughter and me. We were told we needed to be done within 2 hours of our reservation time. We were fine with that, given...that we had reserved just 2 days earlier and knew the restaurant’s reputation for quality food. We arrived early but the host was displeased because she had written down that the reservation was for 2. (We had saved the email confirming for 3.) We didn’t argue further as, again, we were excited for the opportunity. We dine out a lot, in many countries, and are always eager for new experiences, so we try to “roll with it” when these things happen. In any event, she seated us in a hot and empty room, away from the windows, adjacent to the service station, kitchen entry, bar and the table clearing station. Our server did a nice job helping us while multiple other servers stood immediately next to our table waiting for food service to exit the kitchen - for the entire duration of our meal. The food was very good and the wine selection was on point. After 30+ minutes of sitting in an empty room we were joined by a family with 2 children under the age of 5 and a couple, all of whom who were given the window tables. Another table in our room, away from the kitchen, went unused until we were paying the bill. I did speak briefly to the host upon exiting the restaurant, but only when she inquired about the meal. I reported the food was very well done, our server was on task but the table selection was unnecessarily poor, and even felt punitive, particularly in light of a mistake that was not ours. She responded defensively, retorting that we “had booked just 2 days ago.” Rather than reply in kind, I vowed that despite their gorgeous setting, quality food and the servers’ talents, she should have rejected our inquiry as we could not return or recommend it. This restaurant sits squarely with those venues who treat you as though you are privileged to visit with them. We much prefer restaurants that approach dining as an experience shared among the patron and staff. Others should pass on this place if it is an important night for you and a quality experience is imperative. When spending 400 euros for a meal, you should only attend if you know in advance that you will have a table that is not in the annex. They have gorgeous tables outside, along the street and in the lower level that should be requested. My expectation is that plenty of diners leave very pleased but, unfortunately, many depart unfulfilled.More

Off the beaten path serene location with gorgeous views. But the portions??? More refined dining places like Mistral offer better portions. This was total exploitation of their past reputation and it made me feel bad.
