Dorothea Johnson is one of the best Bahamian cooks on Harbour Island, or anywhere.. Her restaurant is simple and diner-like. No atmosphere, no garden and no view. But she has a huge following among the winter residents who know that her food is always superb....We buy her take-out tuna sandwiches which are amazing, and we buy huge platters for parties. Many people go there for her breakfasts.More

If you want to avoid spending a fortune on food on Harbour Island this is a good option. The menu is limited or non-existent. You eat what they made that day. But the roasted chicken, peas and rice, and macaroni and cheese we had were...very good. The setting isn't much but the people were very friendly. We had a nice conversation with a local politician while eating.More

We wandered in on a Sunday and it looked like no one expected lunch business. They had nothing prepared but agreed to make me a fresh conch salad and a blt for my wife. The conch salad was very good. We'll try again.

Check earlier in the day to find out what Dorothy has to offer. Outstanding grouper, mahi and traditional Bahamian fare, Reasonably priced too. Separately, try Sybil Bakery, across from Sawyers Grocery, for breakfast from 7AM til 10AM. eggs grits, bacon, Johhncake sausage and more. Absurdely...priced at $4 bucks.More
