They do great food with a good choice of vegetables. We had cauliflower in white sauce with broccoli plus mashed swede and new potatoes. As they only do their delicious duck in the evenings, they kindly did it for us specially one lunchtime as we were visiting from Australia. We like to go every year. All their pies and other... A fantastic traditional pub, crammed full of interesting objects (& people) with really good food & beer. Can't think why you would not want to visit.

Midst the Chalke Valley History Festival nearby, we slipped and slithered out for a very welcome and relaxing meal. The staff are brilliant always there to ensure you are well fed and watered, without being over attentive. I love the beer selection. The pub is not large but is always interesting to look around at the vast collection of iron,... More

Had lunch hear on a pleasant sunny day followed by a walk in the beautiful Chalk Valley. Publican and person serving food were very friendly, the food was tasty and well cooked with huge portions and loads of fresh veg and the puds sounded great but we were too full to find out. Interesting range of cask ales served straight... More

Tony and all waiting staff made that extra effort to make room for an extra couple joining our table at short notice. The food and service were at their marvellously high standard. Delicious food and fabulous beer. Well done everyone.

Food is traditionally cooked and always tasty. There is always a pie and you actually get a slice of a real pie with proper pastry - none of the usual bowl of casserole with a puff pastry lid balanced somewhere in the vicinity. We were given 5 plates of veg to share but it turned out to be 8 different... More

Really friendly staff, lovely old pub with a great atmosphere. I think I'm getting addicted to Badger beer shandies. Roast was lovely - veg perfectly cooked, my dietry requirements were met with no fuss - and - yay - the beef rare. Watercress does not work with it though. Another place where the owners should be proud of their staff.

This place came recommended by a local person and with very good reasons! Charming countryside location, lovely atmosphere and great food. I had a scrummy fish bake and my husband a delicious wild boar pie. We finished with an amazing bread and butter pudding with ginger jam and homemade custard. The portions were huge and the price very reasonable. Highly... More

A lovely, classic country pub serving well priced, great food. The Party of American visitors loved the ambiance: and the quantities of food were spectacular. All in all, just a great little rural pub, in a near idyllic village setting. Well worth the effort to find.

The Horseshoe is brilliant and it is exactly what you expect a country pub to be, but can't very often find today. It has not been bistroized and whilst it has smallish rooms inside, it is bursting with eclectic character. The pub is nestled in Ebbesbourne Wake, a small village in the stunning Chalke Valley, south of the A30, a... More
