Situated on the high peak of the Bretton/Eyam landscape sits The Barrel Inn, a quaint cosy local pub with a real wood burning fire and a homely atmosphere. We had our first visit here with friends that suggested we make the trip out of Sheffield...More

This is my favourite public house, it must be one of the best, if not the best, in Derbyshire and we keep going back. Set in a stunning rural location high on a ridge it has fantastic views all around. Recently it has been tastefully...More

What a shame. We walked up the hill from Hathersage, as we’ve done many times before, only to discover dogs are no longer allowed inside. Instead we sat outside in the April drizzle. Next time we’ll wait till the summer.

Myself and my patented visited last night, and booked upon recommendation from previous reviews, and I’m glad we did; almost every table has a reserved sign on it. Dinner was excellent, service was great and the atmosphere was lovely. What a great spot, even on...More

I visit this pub at least a couple of times a month as it is local to me, has by far the best food and warmest welcome in the area. I used to try and avoid Sundays as it seemed to get a lot of...More

After a punishing 9 miles walk me and my partner were gasping for a drink and a warm, we were as always with our very well behaved Labradors, I saw straight away there appeared to be a new contemporary glass porch, and with it a...More

Have been here several times and each visit has been worth the journey. Lovely homemade food, try the steak and Ale pie, and very good beer. The pub is currently having some work done but it isn't intrusive. In winter it has open fires and...More

Called in at The Barrel Inn for a drink after a long walk. The pub apparantly is the highest pub in the Peak District. Beautiful views.

Dogs are tolerated before 6pm. You get then a sit at the most remote table. This is definitely not a dog friendly pub, but you can still get your dog inside (before 6pm) and endure the grumpy looks from the staff.
