Wonderful place specialising in delicious and imaginative soups sharing platters, and an array of cakes; they also have more standard fare. They brew their own beer, bake their own bread and much more. Friendly smiling service and very good value for money.

Just love it. Food, ambiance, food and food again. Local, organic, good wines, lovely location, great staff, AMAZING bread. I always judge a restaurant on how good the bread is when it arrives on the table and this bread is specialist bread baked freshly every morning. SUBLIME. Would you ever believe a local arts centre could get it so right.... More

We were lucky to have a meal here as the restaurant was fully booked because of a production in Woodend barn. We had arrived early and the staff were quite happy to accommodate us. It was a delicious meal , my friend said the best food outside of Glasgow, with unusual dips and salads and delicious main courses with scrumptious... More

Being local to Banchory we find ourselves at Buchanan's bistro now and again. We've been for breakfast, lunch, coffees and for dinner. The service is always brilliant, the food superb with extraiedinary views of the surrounding country.

Not local to the area, we found Buchanan's Bistro by accident after taking a wrong turn while feeling peckish enough to stop anywhere with a food sign - best wrong turn ever! 3 of us shared a combination of cold platters followed by crème brulee and an amazing chocolate torte. The platters were fantastic, the homemade bread outstanding and it... More

Val and Calum Buchanan certainly keep themselves busy producing food that is enjoyable and memorable. They use locally sourced produce wherever possible - much of it 'in house'. They have an allotment on site; they bake their own bread; cure and smoke meat and fish and even brew their own beers. They offer a variety of food from hearty soups... More

I have visited a few times, but this was the first for a while. Dinner for 2 on a Wednesday evening. Service was very friendly and efficient. We had the dipping oils, home-made bread, dukkah and olives to started, and then shared a coastal platter. All scrumptious. Coastal platter was a great selection and even better than it used to...
