After being to the ava many times over the years, went on the 26/11/16, start off by the service was average, very slow, ordered drinks too ages to come. Had ordered the roast pepper and spiced carrot soup, this was lovley, came out piping hot with a bread roll very nice. Then my steak came , looked ok as it... More

Hi Jaypm456, We are extremely sorry to hear about your experience, we take reviews extremely seriously and each one is investigated. Thank you for providing the date in which you dined with us, I have spoken with the waitress who served you. She assures me that your table was checked on 2-3 times after the second steak went out. She... More

Hadn't been in years. Place looks well and menu reads well but in reality it's standard pub fayre. Large portions on my prawn open but the dish was slightly let down by the amount of dressing the leaves were coated in. It was just far too much oil. I want a salad as it's slightly more healthy. I don't want... More

Hi HendrixNI, Thank you for your review, we try to reply to each one personally. We will be revisiting our all day food menu in January, can I ask what options you would like to see? It might be an idea going forward to serve the salad garnish separately, as some may prefer it with or without. I will pass... More

My wife and I decided to have lunch here - a spur of the moment decision. My wife had been a few times but I hadn't set foot in the Ava for over 25 years. The bar has recently been taken over and a major refurbishment completed and to be honest the wine bar décor would not be out of... More

You can't book a table of four only six. Don't know reason behind this as a lot of people wouldn't risk turning up with the chance of not getting a table? We called for a drink with a view to returning for a meal in the future. Busy which is a good sign for a restaurant. Service a little disappointing,... More

Hi Feetofflames35, We welcome walk ins and only take bookings for larger groups, similar to the Ramore in Portrush which is full every night. You may have some waiting time at the bar where you can enjoy a drink however we can reassure you you wont be waiting for too long. Apologies for the bill mix up, a new till... More

Visited at lunchtime. Staff great and food even better! The lunch deal of two courses is good value although the soup portion is a little small. In fairness it is probably the correct sized portion for lunch but could definitely squeeze in some more! Excellent quality food and definitely worth a return trip.

Visited at 7pm on Friday evening,so was very busy. Had booked in advance ,so seated promptly. We were a large group and seemed like they had added extra chairs , very cramped and little elbow room. The staff were very friendly and the service was good. The food was average though quite expensive ,fish and chips £12.50, small steak £16.95... More

The Ava Winebar has undergone a complete refurbishment and has been transformed into a classy, elegant and on trend wine bar. We are ideally situated on the corner of Main Street opposite Bangor bus station and the post office. We are open seven days a week for lunch, tapas, dinner and drinks. The future of The Ava is an exciting one, especially with a complete reboot of the drinks menu, now knows as 'The Drink Bible' with its quirky illustrations and finishing touches. The food menu has also been revamped and expanded upon, proving that even the pickiest of eaters can find something they will enjoy. For those who are looking something a little lighter a new bar menu has been introduced which features tapas and selected wines by the glass. The newly renovated spot is also expecting a new beer garden and a re-branding of the cellar bar.
