Having eaten here a number of times we were looking forward to trying the new menu and weren't disappointed. We had the cheesy melt sharer to start, which was lovely. for mains, I stuck with my favourite - fish and chips, which you can tell is freshly made there and my friend had the 10oz gammon steak, which I tried... A few months after a poor review , we had heard that a new menu was in place and food was pretty good . Sadly the new menu was where the good points stopped . Granted , it was bank holiday Monday so I expect a little busier , the 45 min wait for food soon transpires into almost 90,... More

Hello ash j I'm sorry to see you have not enjoyed yourself on a second visit and can only apologise. I can see it was 9 months since your last review. Sometimes we get it wrong but it's not from a lack of trying. This was the only complaint we received over the packed bank holiday weekend. I'm pleased to... More

This is a 'Two for One' type pub where most main courses are 2-4-1. This means they are in my opinion slightly more expensive than most others pubs, but with the offer is good value. E.g. My burger was £11.50 so expensive but when we bought 2 it was same price. We ate as a party of 3 (1 child)... More

Came for Saturday lunch, easy enough to get a table as it's a big place. Menu is colossal - far too much on for it to be quality food. In fairness, it was fine for the money - £31 for 4 adults and a child. Issues were not enough staff - queuing at the bar even at half full. They... More

We went here with family for an evening meal and were impressed. Admittedly before we ordered we were a little apprehensive as it is a 2-4-1 so meals work out very good value. The food came out and was very well presented and very tasty too. The choice was huge too, a large choice on the menu and many daily... More

I always have the Halloumi burger when we visit although it's not always on the specials menu, they always accommodate. We always enjoy our meals at this pub although I will say that charging extra for BBQ sauce is I think a little over the top and on this visit 1 of our party wanted gravy with his steak but... More

I had lunch here today with two friends. When we went inside, there was no-one at the bar. Eventually a waitress appeared and a few moments later, the manager / barman. The wooden frigate - previously called H.M.S Foudroyant has become the symbol for Hartlepool.
