I was shocked at some of the poor reviews for this restaurant. It is awhile since I visited the restaurant but I ate there with my family on Saturday and was not disappointed. The Bistro has a small menu but the food is plentiful, of very good quality and always hot. Add to that a nice lager and wine and... More

Wish I'd seen these reviews first and saved our time/money. Horrible surroundings (think 1970's Robin's Nest), dead atmosphere (god awful James Blunt cd is not what you want to hear when eating out). One other couple in. Miserable staff, never cracked a smile all night, never asked if the food was ok or ask if we needed anything else. Food... More

Never been decorated since it opened. Only one other couple in and it was a Saturday night. The food was expensive and I could have cooked better at home. Staff miserable

The food in this restaurant is always reliable and of very good quality, bit mid week the atmosphere can be not as good. It can be very quiet and "dead". However it is one of the best restaurants in Bishop Auckland.

We had a lunchtime meal a week ago and it is the same place as I remember 30 years ago, nothing has moved with the times, tired furniture. The food I have to say was definitely average, vegetables disinteresting. However, the front of house waitress, an older lady seemed distant. There is nothing about this restaurant that would make me want... More

Im a regular here and I can honestly say the place never loses its charm. The food is honest and plentyful and the prices really good value for money. Its never really changed since i started coming here maybe 20 years or so ago and thats not a bad thing. The only negative comment i have is the service is... More

Having been regular visitors to the Bistro some years ago, we were slightly underwhelmed by the lack of internal updating. A cool reception and a complete lack of customer comfort was followed up with disinterested service. However the menu was excellent and the food was very good value for money, including an impressive list of house wines. The lack of... More
