Excellent service. Very good food. Lovely view of Lake Balaton. Be warned.........huge aggressive mosquitoes at dusk. Make sure you eat early to prevent a pleasurable evening being spoilt.

I believe if this restaurant is worth visiting it's because of the view it offers to the lake. The service was ok, nothing to complain about. The food was average or a bit worse. We were 4 and 3 of us felt the chef had...not used any salt while cooking. The food tasted nothing at all. I would not go back there to eat. The location is wonderful. It has a balcony with a view of the Lake Balaton. The service is professional. Unfortunately taste are not. I like the tasty food and this was disappointing. I do not mean that it not eatable but it is nothing special.

My wife and I visited Varga Vendeglo for a late lunch with friends during a trip to Hungary in May of 2016. Our friends travel frequently to Hungary and have visited this restaurant many times and wanted us to experience a meal there. The restaurant...is situated on the south west side of Lake Balaton on a hill that overlooks the Lake. The view is spectacular. We were seated on a large, awning covered terrace and the setting was simply magnificent and so was the service. Our friend, who also speaks passable Hungarian, ordered for us. We enjoyed an appetizer of fresh duck liver pate (a specialty in Hungary) as a starter. For an entree, I was presented with a freshly grilled fillet of fogosch fresh from Lake Balaton. (BTW, fogosch is a large, freshwater fish known in English and German as "zander.") This was one of the very best pieces of fish that I have ever eaten and it was absolutely perfectly cooked and presented. Our friends and my wife had a grilled steak with a red wine reduction sauce that was fabulous. The grilled steak was topped with a large piece of absolute perfection: a thick slice of lightly breaded and sautéed fresh goose liver. This is another Hungarian specialty and it is phenomenally good. Our meal was accompanied by a fantastic dry red wine from the Eger Region of Hungary, which our friends denominated "Bull's Blood." I could not further identify the wine because the label was written entirely in Hungarian. I do know that the Eger Region is known for its red wines and I intend to explore them if I can find them in America. In any event, the wine was absolutely superb. I simply cannot say enough about our wonderful meal at Varga Vendeglo. It was just perfect in all respects. Lake Balaton is a bit off the beaten path, but it is truly beautiful and well worth a trip to see if you are in Budapest or Vienna -- from which it can be easily accessed by train. If you find yourself in Lake Balaton, I highly recommend a meal (or even better, two meals) at Varga Vendeglo!More

The food and the service! It would be well advised to reserve a table whereby one can plainly see the wonderview to add to the ambience.

We visited this restaurant after reading the good reviews brought trip adviser. We were not disappointed. The food was amazing. We ordered the meat platter for 2 and it could have filled 3 people. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service impeccable. He red...wine was also very tasty and relatively cheap. I would recommend this to anyone and we will be visiting again.More

Great meal in an area that is not heavily populated by restaurants. Nothing outstanding, but fabulous view and good service at a reasonable price. Busy restaurant with lots of locals.

That is not that easy to find a really good restaurant but this is perfect. Try "vargabeles" dessert it is delicious. View is also beautiful. Have fun.

Delicious food, fantastic home wine and this Hungarian hospitality! I would come and come back :) Live music was also a nice touch.
