About
Takdir can be translated to mean 'luck' or 'destiny'. This Indian restaurant has been running successfully under the same ownership since 1979. Mamzy and Suff have taken over from their father of the day to day running of the business. With them around they make it a very calm, easy and relaxed atmosphere to be in. They do whatever they can to make your experience memorable and make you feel like... your at home away from home. Takdir is perfectly situated on East Parade, as it looks out onto the sea and after a windswept walk, or even drive along the seafront it can be quite inviting.

Highly recommend the Takdir. We have visited this well run, long standing family establishment several times, over many years, and are never left disappointed. The staff are continuously genial and attentive; the food is always lovely and never lets down, authentic homemade curries, washed down with Cobra or nice wines. Special thanks to Aayan; a confident, approachable, and friendly waiter, with a great personality, and like all staff, happy to help, with a smile on their face. Whitley Bay is spoilt with a plethora of outstanding curry houses, and Takdir is definitely high up the list to go too.

Visited Takdir for the first time for my daughters 21st birthday. My first thoughts when I walked in was how lovely the restaurant was, very modern with gorgeous lighting. They have a banquet on sun - Thursday, 5 courses for £18.95. We all went for this as everything we wanted to order was available in the special offer. The food was beautiful aswel as the presentation. The staff were really friendly and literally couldn't do enough for us, making sure we were OK. After our main course they topped the evening off with bringing a chocolate brownie for my daughter with a huge sparkler in and singing happy birthday, we hadn't requested this so it was appreciated even more. We've always had a regular Indian restaurant that we go to but wanted to try somewhere new with it being a special occasion. This will now be our regular restaurant as everything from the gorgeous setting, the friendly staff, the delicious food and the fantastic price was perfect and worth every penny. Thank you Takdir, we'll be back 😁

This is a great restaurant with friendly and efficient service. The food is very good and the chef even produced a dish not on the menu. A naan bread straight from the tandoor oven is a must. The banquet menu is worth a look (Sun-Thur) as it definitely works out cheaper if you are hungry.

Awful customer service. Accidentally ordered here and rang up immediately to let them know and asked to cancel and get a refund, was told on the phone to ring back the next day at 4pm. I then get a call 2 hours later asking where I am for my curry! Unsurprisingly have not refunded me despite saying they would, and send rude emails.

Visited this restaurant 7pm Thursday evening. It is divided by a wall that gives one third, two thirds layout with open plan seating to the main side. It offered a Thursday evening special which was comprehensive in its offerings but with additional costs for some meat and other dishes.
The order was taken and we awaited our meal. After a good period of time had elapsed we noticed that a table of four behind us had been served their food before us . I spoke to the chap who had taken our order and within a couple of minutes the food arrived all at once. It had obviously been standing about waiting to be served. There were lots of waiting staff working that evening. These things of course do happen, but the food itself could only be described as average at best.

Food is amazing however disappointed with a few things we arrived early (not the fault of the restaurant) so was asked to wait in the bar and ordered drinks totally understandable ordered a cocktail and a beer the cocktail took about 30 mins to arrive (in their defence they did give me a free cocktail which I was grateful for) but I was annoyed that a couple came in without a reservation but knew a waiter and got a table for 2 before us which I'm sure was our table then a group of 4 came in and reservation for 7.30pm got seated again before us and I'm still waiting for my 1st drink. Got offered a seat in a slightly drafty area that nobody else seemed to use but that was fine I was just wanting my food n go. Went to place an order oh u can't have that the oven isn't working hmm shame because this has been our favourite Indian restaurant for many years but felt very let down n pushed to one side

We went to have a meal at the Takdir tonight, 15th July but we were very disappointed with the service. Although I had booked a table on line we were greeted with "not sure we have table for you, its very busy. However, a table was organised after taking a table from a large party. We then waited for any service. I had to find a waiter/waitress to ask for drink. Also struggled to order food. The starter was not cleared before the mains arrived. My husband had to go to the bar to pay before we left. Not a good experience.

The worst meal ever. The restaurant is to busy and the service was shocking.
The quality of the food was very poor.we also red red a carry out, that cost £47 and the quality was shocking and it was returned.
To be honest I would not recommend it.

I can’t recommend Takdir highly enough.
When we visited in December, the restaurant was beautifully lit up, it created a really nice atmosphere. Service was friendly, polite, efficient, and professional. We did not feel rushed at all throughout the evening, and were very well attended-to, e.g our glasses were never empty.
Soon after our orders were taken, the papadums that we ordered arrived. They were piping hot, clearly freshly fried, and absolutely delicious. We even got an extra one as a bonus! Everybody really enjoyed the accompanying dips.
There was a bit of a mix-up with our main courses. We were given, and then charged for, an additional naan bread that we never actually ordered, and they brought out the wrong rice, but then gave it us for free, and brought out the correct rice dish. Nevertheless, everything was outstanding. It was all piping hot and tasted really fresh. The sauces were delicious, and the portions were extremely generous. We got a good amount of meat in all of the curries. I ordered chickpea masala, vegetable pakora, and keema (lamb) samosas - I can’t even tell you how delicious it all was. Everybody else loved their food as well. The naan bread was pillowy soft, and the rice looked really tender.
The bill was extremely reasonable, given the quality of the food, the portion sizes, the speed and friendliness of service, and the atmosphere. I most definitely hope to be returning to Takdir in the future, and would recommend it to anybody!

Shockingly bad. Food arrived late and was stone cold, onion bhaji, bread, rice, chips and a special flatbread kebab inedible.
Curries you could at least reheat but why should you when paying £50 for food!
Spoke to the restaurant who offered a replacement, was already too late so waiting at least another hour was not going to happen. Or 20% discount on our next order... Which is also never going to happen.

When we walked in , we walked to our table, the waiters serving us always had huge smiles on their faces! They recommend amazing food for us! We had an amazing chicken katsu curry with lamb radras,it was exquisite! We then got to the dessert menu, and it had a lot of food to pick. They also had a lot of choices on the main menu! We also got these mocktails, which were the best mocktails we have ever had! Definitely will be coming back! :)

We called in on a Saturday evening in November hoping there would be a table for 2. The restaurant was very busy, but fortunately for us they squeezed us into a table near the bar.
The food was excellent, plenty of choice and good sized portions.
I love spicy food so I was spoiled for choice, however, my wife is not a big fan of very spicy food so struggles for choice at most restaurants. The team were more than happy to accommodate by making her a vegetable Jalfrezi in a milder version than usual, which she loved.
The staff were brilliant, attentive and very friendly, nothing was too much trouble.
I'm not surprised it was so busy if this is the normal standard, we will certainly be back, it's just a shame it's not on our doorstep.

The young local staff and service was spot on however the food was not. I am not sure if the chef was off on the day of our visit however the dishes were far too sweet and bland.
The Tandoori Masala was very bland and the Pathia was neither seasoned and extremely sweet as if chutney had been added. It was so bad I sent it back
After some insistence the waiter reluctantly changed my dish to a chicken balti which was so bad I left the whole dish.
The staff were good and the restaurant was really quite nice but the food was Very disappointing.
In regard to the quality of competition nearby I will not be going back as the meal was pretty expensive too. £14 for a main meal which was neither eaten or enjoyed

I wasn’t feeling too well on a Thursday evening but thought that I should probably get some food, so thought I would try Takdir as it was near the Premier Inn in which I was staying. I asked to be seated in a quiet corner somewhere (as by this point I reeeally wasn’t feeling great) and Josh showed me to a quiet booth. He was very kind and patient in answering all my questions about the dishes’ ingredients (because I didn’t want anything too rich), and gave his recommendations.
The food didn’t take too long to arrive at all. The chicken tikka starter was delicious - ‘only’ four chunks of chicken, but that was just the right size for me, and they were marinated and charred to perfection. The chickpea masala (recommended by Josh) was also spot-on, the sauce was absolutely delicious and it was an extremely reasonable portion size for a side dish, as was the mixed vegetable bahji, which was not, as you would expect, a fried disk of vegetables but instead a pot of mixed vegetables coated in this delicious, light sauce. The mixed vegetable bahji was incredible, there was a lot of it but I absolutely licked the bowl clean! The plain naan bread was also delicious, I could definitely tell that it was cooked fresh and it stayed piping hot for ages. It was perfect for mopping up all the different juices. Also, Josh very kindly asked the kitchen not to brush it with butter before serving, due to my sensitive stomach, and the kitchen was very kind in accommodating such a request.
Overall, I could not fault the food one bit. It was all so flavoursome, piping hot, and served in perfect/generous portion sizes. Everything more or less arrived at once as well, which was a bonus.
After I had finished eating my plates were cleared by a man called Ahbab, who I later found out to be the manager! By this point the restaurant was emptying out, but I spent the next 45mins or so just chilling with him and his team, and I had such a good night with them, it was a right laugh!
The bill came to £17 in total, including a tip, for those four dishes, a glass of tap water, and brilliant company in a great setting. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, I can easily say that it is the best Indian restaurant that I have been to. It is a must-try, and I definitely hope to be returning some day. The food is brilliant, and the youthful energy of the staff is just the cherry on the cake. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
