Visited for my birthday last week. Very good service throughout the meal. Plenty of choice for vegetarians. Prices are reasonable but could become expensive if you add a couple of sides. Food is served tapas style or can be a full meal with side(s). Good selection of wine - wine list provided or you are free to look at the floor to ceiling wine racks and choose from there

Been considering this place for a while and finally got the chance to eat there this evening. Our table was booked for 7pm and the place was fully booked (we were lucky enough to be on the Cancellation List). The restaurant is over two buildings but, not being in the main part of the restaurant didn’t detract from the experience, the service was attentive and professional. We ordered the Baked Brie to start which came with Chilli Jam and lots of bread. It was divine. The menu was fantastic but the Chateaubriand wasn’t on the Specials (people rave about it) so we ordered Halibut which came with scallops and langoustine in a tempura batter with a lemon butter sauce. Sides were extra and we chose roasted potatoes (with rosemary and garlic) and spinach with peas. It was just awesome! The fish was beautifully cooked and everything was seasoned perfectly. I can’t rate the meal enough and haven’t had anything as special on the island since the days of Samphire which knocked all of the competition out of the water at the time. Ok it’s not cheap but, for the most amazing food, it’s unmissable. Give it a try. Within an hour of leaving I’d booked to go back for my birthday treat. Thank you for the most amazing experience!

We had a takeaway and no wine but it was great! Lovely combo starter of baked camembert, pulled pork croquettes and Scotch egg. Followed by tasty steak pie with potatoes and veg. It arrives early but it has to go in the fridge and be part cooked for between 20-30 minutes. Recommended.

Recently eaten there twice in almost as many weeks and have come to the conclusion that this restaurant is a little over rated. Limited number of dishes were available meaning that some people were unable to order what they wanted. Some wines only served if you selected the tasting menu. So the upshot of this is perhaps I had been mistaken the first time into thinking this was a great little find, now I'm not so sure.

We had booked a table a couple of weeks in advance for a birthday celebration. The food was good however the breads and olives we ordered arrived after the duck spring rolls, fish fingers and fish pie by which time we didn’t feel like them. At 8.30pm a very apologetic waitress asked us if anyone had mentioned they needed the table back at 8.30 (we sat down at 7pm). No one had mentioned this at the time of booking or when we arrived at the restaurant. We hadn’t finished our wine or looked at the dessert menu! The next guests were obviously waiting for our table so we moved to another table to finish our wine. The manageress had ample opportunity to apologise but didn’t seem to care. We will never go to Wine Down again!

Was persuaded to go back here after a visit some time ago when I could not join in the conversation due to the noise! Maybe because it was lunchtime but I felt the acoustics were much better and could clearly hear my companion although they speak very quietly. The menu was perfect for lunch with many small dishes to choose from plus mains which were perfectly adequate for the hungry! I had bruschetta - perfect size and mix of diced tomato (instead of half cherry tomatoes which go everywhere when you pick them up) diced raw onion (delicious change) and perfectly seasoning. This was followed by meatballs which was starter size and perfect for me. My companion had the cod on chorizo paella rice which was not only excellent (I tasted) but put other restaurant’s serving to shame both in size and value. Perfectly served with humour and efficiency. We were two and there was no service charge on the bill……. Went to three restaurants on my visit and this was one of the two best. The only negative for me would be finding a parking space as right in middle of town which suits a lot more customers I would readily admit!! Good to see Roy McFarland is still going strong and congratulations on your adapting to make it work!

It may look like your average neighborhood wine bar, but Wine Down is anything but! I wandered in with two friends on a Friday night, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and incredible aroma of cooked food. The restaurant was filling up quickly (it was almost 7:00 pm) but we managed to snag a table. We sat down orders a bottle of one of the many wines we had that evening. We ordered the marinated olives and cheese board to share. The olives were little bombs of goodness, and the garlic was robust but not overpowering. When our cheese arrived, our expectations continued to be exceeded. Langoustine & monkfish paella and Crispy Pork Belly Stroganoff was amazingly good. Don’t let appearances fool you—the place is hidden, but the dishes are fantastic. This place is perfect for groups or a casual date night.

We popped in for a glass on wine and enjoyed our visit so much that we stayed for several and came back again. The owner was so helpful; she obviously knows her wine very very well and was able to recommend some interesting selections for us. A very friendly atmosphere and a great selection of well priced wines. Unfortunately, having looked at the menu unsurprisingly, the restaurant was fully booked for Friday and Saturday evenings but were we able to make a return visit for a glass of wine in the wine bar area. A fabulous place I hope to return one day,

The kind of food that everyone really wants to eat. It is high end but not challenging which is no mean feat. A gastronome and a philistine could sit down at a table together and both leave extremely satisfied; a little more than either might care to admit. The selection of wine is unsurprisingly excellent and better priced than anywhere else in town. The by the glass selection is also strong. Very well pitched and balanced, and long may it continue. An easy restaurant to recommend to more or less anyone.

It wasn’t a special occasion & turned out to be an expensive night but we couldn’t fault food, service, atmosphere. Starters for our group, chorizo scotch eggs, meatballs as a starter, spring rolls, all really good starters averaged £10 each Main courses, steaks all done exactly as ordered and delicious, steak pie really good, veg separate and I had dauphinoise with my pie. All totally delicious. Steaks were £29, veg all extra. Puds= sticky toffee with ice cream. Decent wine, lots of choice. Wonderful night, staff were very efficient. Great for a special occasion. Just wish I could go every week!

Delicious small plates and great selection of over 400 wines from around the world! For family of 4, we shared small plates of hummus with flat bread, cauliflowers florets cooked in batter which was a bit greasy, delicious roasted pepper soup and juicy mixed fish pie (topped with mashed potatoes). Dessert was one strawberry cheese cake. Total cost, with one bottle of wine was ÂŁ78.

Super concept. Top quality food with great selection of wines by the glass and knowledgeable staff to advise on pairings. Scotch eggs are a must. What sets this place out from the rest was that the following evening I messed our dinner reservation up at another restaurant who couldn’t fit us in. Tried our hotel who said they were too busy, so went back to Wine Down on the off chance of a table. Despite being packed, they managed to accommodated us, nothing was too much trouble and another fantastic meal. Customer service sets this place apart from the rest and can’t wait to return when we next visit the Island.

We visited this restaurant recently and have nothing but positive things to say, the service and food were both excellent. The restaurant was very busy and we were offered a table in the quiet area which in my opinion, only added to the experience. Yes this restaurant is more expensive than most but in my view worth it. There are only a handful of restaurants on the Island that are a cut above the rest and Wine Down, without a doubt, falls into this category. The most important thing is of course the food but, that has to be matched by the service along with the ambience and Wine Down meets that challenge.

Our first night in Douglas and we headed for Wine Down for dinner. My wife had fish goujons which were good and I enjoyed one of the best fish pies ever. The white wine recommended was one that I would never have selected but was absolutely excellent and at a good price. The service was both attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.

We arrived early and sat outside to start working our way through the wine tasters with a table booked for 6:30. Once seated we were told we had until 8:15 which isn’t an issue except it took a while for us to get our order in and then have the food brought out and then taken away once all had finished. The dessert menu was brought to the table around 10 minutes before 8:15 so we didn’t bother. We found the tables very cramped and the person in the corner would need either side of them to get out of their seat if they needed to get up for any reason. We loved the wine menu but didn’t have enough time to work through the tasters which was a shame. Nice options of food to choose from especially for tapas.
