The era of the 1940s is remembered with great fondness by many. At Lady Scarlett's Tea Parlour in Ventnor, we have recreated that atmosphere through our vintage 1940s themed ambience, based on how life would be in WW2. Families can bring loved ones living with dementia to remember the old days. We promote healthy eating and simple portions, which is all about going back to the basics. We also support Help for Heroes and are available to hire for occasions like birthday parties and other special celebrations. You also get to enjoy a wonderful view of the beach while dining. What are you waiting for? Visit our popular tea parlour today and prepare to be amazed!

On an awful day in October we were looking for a little tea shop to go to. After finding this gem on google we drove to Ventnor. It is tiny but it’s an amazing tea room. Everything is brilliant from the amazing owner and his wife to everything internally which pays homage to the war and the 1940s. Gas masks, photos, and all the little touches show they care. The food is beautifully presented and they take take time and care about the customer. If you want tea with a difference then drive here but advisable to book first.

We booked high tea and was not disappointed. We received the warmest of welcomes with a pot of tea provided immediately. The sandwiches were varied and plentiful, so much so that Ang boxed up what we couldn't manage! Home made large fruit scones, home made jam and clotted cream left us stuffed! The best scones I've had for years. Such a friendly couple and the decor just added to the wonderful atmosphere. We will be back!!!

Food and tea and cakes 10/10 service 10/10 ambiance 10/10 This is a wonderful place that if you are visiting the IOW and Ventnor you should at least pop in for a Cuppa. you can spend ages simply looking around and looking at times gone by. Its like a free museum entry with every cup.

Dreadful experience. We ordered 3 sandwiches, 2 chocolate milkshakes and a glass of water, and the price was £30! So overpriced. We waited a long time, and were eventually presented with 2 toffee milkshakes. When we advised that we had ordered chocolate milkshakes, the young man serving went back inside to check. The young lady came back outside with the toffee milkshakes and in a VERY accusatory way snarled "the reason I made toffee milkshakes is because you ordered toffee milkshakes" - why would you speak to your paying customers like that? We explained that we didn't order toffee but chocolate, so she eventually came back out with two chocolate milkshakes. She slammed them on the table and walked off without so much as an apology. I really felt very uncomfortable. She could have done this in a much nicer way, what gets me is why would we lie about what flavour we wanted? If your staff member misheard and didn't confirm the order back that's a genuine shame but there are better ways to go about it. Like not accusing your customers of lying. Also, the milkshakes were not even chilled but more lukewarm, they had clearly been made poorly to prove a point. No ice cream in them which I expected for £5, it tasted like Nesquik! There was chocolate sauce all the way down the sides of the glass which made a mess too. Honestly, I wasn't going to leave a review until we were spoken to so poorly, however from reading the menu it is clear that there are too many items so everything is done very cheaply. You would be better off having a smaller menu with higher quality products. It's such a nicely decorated little place, we absolutely loved the feel of it, but the rudeness of your staff really ruined our experience. We will not be coming here again.

Firstly I am a bit taken back by your review , I was on site that day and remembered the order well., The member of staff Is very good and articulate when taking orders. Equally it was a shame that you didn't ask to speak to me as I could have dealt with your issue, again I'm sure any of my staff would have asked if everything was ok in a timely manner as I always make sure I don't have any complaints the pricing is fair and good value. As for the replacement milkshakes being a mess to make a point i find very hard to take in as I expect everything that is made for our customers is presented nice. But to say things are done cheaply I'm very upset about that. As the owner and have been for the last 7 years have worked hard to get a very good reputation for quality and value ,but not sure in this climate what you expected to pay. The price has been reduced this season to reflect on the way we had to adapt on the we have to operate during this pandemic and it's been very hard . if you wish to contact me via our website giving me your contact details I will give you a full refund. If you raised all these issues at the time I'm very sure your review would be a more positive . Kind regards Tony

I don’t know what I can say about this place other than it’s fantastic, the cake is out of this world and the portions are very generous. The staff were so friendly and chatting to us always making sure we were ok. With only a couple of tables you feel like you are being treated to your own tea room, we had tea, in a pot with a cozy in a China cup and a latte that was made to perfection. We were only in the Isle of Wight for a couple of days but when we return we will be going back. I recommend booking as it gets full quickly but worth the effort and you will not be disappointed.

Happened to be on the esplanade looking for breakfast... But post covid 19 the breakfast places have turned into ice-cream from a window places, or just tea and cake. Happened to bump in to the owner of Scarlets who kindly opened early, served lovely coffee and then made scrambled eggs for brunch, and they were amazing. Friendly and calming atmosphere, been a few times , always a lovely retro place, even has retro music !

Visited with my husband and 2 children. Full of ambience with an array of 40s memorabilia to spark conversation. My kids loved the air raid toilet and we all enjoyed looking at the items and listening to the period music. The proprietors were incredibly welcoming, service top notch! We indulged in hot chocolate and cakes which we were happy to discover are home made by the owners. Delicious! Board games available which enabled quality family time. Was great to learn that they are 'dementia' friendly and I would consider this establishment to be the perfect place to spark some long term memories for those with the condition. In addition to being child friendly they also welcome dogs with treats available for 4 legged friends. We will most definitely be paying another visit, maybe next time without the car and kids to allow full benefit of their alcohol license! Well worth a visit.

My family and I stopped for a light lunch at this delightfully furnished and friendly tea room after a short walk around Ventnor. We were greeted with a warm smile and treated with super home-cooked food that didn’t lack on portion size. Keep up the good work!

We had seen a clip on TV about Lady Scarletts and decided that we had to visit, we were not disappointed. Absolutely loved our visit, there was a limited menu that day but we were still able to have a lovely snack and a cake sat out at a pavement table overlooking the beach. The staff were really friendly, I would definitely recommend a visit. When you are inside it's really hard to know where to look there's so much to see.

We stopped at this tea shop on the esplanade in Ventnor mid morning. We had tea and a slice of home made cake. The service was very friendly and the homemade cake was tasty. Seating outside is limited but there are benches on the seafront

I had been let down at the last minute by another establishment who had promised a take away afternoon tea but couldn't deliver. Tony stepped in without hesitation and I am now relieved that the first place were unable to help.Tony and the whole team were amazing. They went to a lot of rouble to get it just right (including sourcing THE BEST Eccles cakes south of Watford!). The tea was beautifully presented, generous in size and clearly made with a lot of love. It was also very reasonable in price! I cannot recommend them highly enough for a simple coffee by the beach or something more special.

We had been hunting around for a alternative location for a superb cream tea after reading that Chessel Pottery has gone very much downhill and no longer makes the cream teas it was famous for. Lady Scarlett’s has an incredible record of top scores, which we’re now extremely suspicious of. We phoned ahead to check for availability and although the person on the phone wasn’t rude, they made us feel we’d possibly made a bad choice with their attitude on the phone. You can’t judge a book by its cover, but when we arrived at the place, we wondered if it was really the right place. Sadly it was. Not very inviting and seemed a bit too rough around the edges, despite the ‘World War period’ theme. When we entered, a grumpy man (possibly the owner) was there observing people coming in, although very few people were coming in (a big sign of bad things). When we mentioned issues parking, he told us that there’s lots of parking in Newport. This location is nowhere near that, so we assume we were being told to go elsewhere if we didn’t like it! Lovely! The place was empty whilst others were full, so there’s a hint! We left without ordering anything. An unpleasant experience.

Firstly what lovely staff! I am coeliac and dairy intolerant and Tony made sure I was able to still join in on my family having cream tea. Everything was so delicious, great portions and a very good price! Nothing was too much of a bother. Highly recommend!

We sat on a table outside the shop with a great view looking straight out on to Ventnor beach and then the English channel. The scones were huge and still warm from the oven. They were served with homemade strawberry and rhubarb jam. The staff were so friendly and their service to us was great. Thank you, it was definitely the best cream tea we have ever had!
