After living here for 16 years and frequenting Henry's as a regular watering hole we were amazed at how good the food being served always looked, so good, we decided to have Sunday lunch. Bonus!
We were utterly flabbergasted at what was served!
A great portion of meat and so many different vegatables, all piping hot, and to have a choice to 'go large' is great for the monetary difference.
As for the cauliflower cheese (an extra) it's the best we've ever had!
All of this in a great atmosphere and served by happy accommodating staff, what more can I say?
Do it now before it's too late!
Thanks to all at Henry's.

This pub was recommended by the hotel I stayed at & I chose it over weather-spoons which is opposite as I was told they do home cooked meals.
Well I wasn’t disappointed the menu wasn’t to big to make you indecisive & they had a few items for kids. The pub was busy which made it very noisy but it’s to be expected with manly voices.
After a quick decision I chose the cottage pie & I’m glad I did it was very hot tasty & plentiful. Probably one of the best meals I’ve had out in a while.
The bonus was they sold thatchers & the half a pint I ordered washed it down just right.
Would I recommend this place ?
Absolutely & I will be coming back in a month on my next visit to Paignton.

We were holidaying in Paignton last week on our Staycation so i booked 3 places in advance for the Monday to Wednesday (government scheme), choosing here for our Monday. We were not disappointed!
Obviously as expected it was busy and we were late for our booking by 15 minutes but thankfully they still accommodated us. The service was excellent despite how busy it was and the food quality was very good. My Mixed grill was top drawer and the other meals of Burger, sharing platter and scampi hit the spot. I loved the different Ciders and the service was good.
I would absolutely recommend this place and will return. Great stuff.

I cannot believe the treatment we have just experienced in Henry’s Bar. I just can’t get over it, never having experienced customer service like it in my life.
Arriving in Paignton on Friday, we soon realised the importance of booking ahead for evening meals, so rang and booked a table for 7:00pm Monday (today), providing a mobile contact number. Earlier today, we rang to check if it would be ok to change that to 8:00pm and were told that would be fine.
We arrived just before eight, were shown to our table and given a menu and instructions. We chose our meals quickly and I joined the queue at the bar. So far, so good.
When I started to say our order, I was quickly cut off by the young lady behind the bar and told that they were not serving food and the kitchen was closed. I explained that I had booked on Friday and she said that everyone who booked a table had ordered food and it was not their fault. Well it most certainly was not my fault, and as an establishment that prides itself on the food it serves, I am shocked that this came as a surprise to them.
After I had left, I tried to call to speak to a manager. More poor customer service sadly - nobody answered the phone and the call was cut off.

I've previously described Henry's as a "True Gem" I think I was right and now can report they offer fantastic consistency in their service. Due to the Covid-19 crisis I booked ahead for two of the days we were in town. On arrival we had the one way system and ordering process explained to us and it was great to see that everyone did as they were asked. Drinks were ordered at the bar, paid for by card and then delivered to you table with minimal waiting. We ordered food off the regular menu and from the specials board, all meals came out hot, well presented and generously portioned. Top marks to the whole team, they were one of only two establishments adhereing to all the Government recommendations for service in pubs... Will certainly be back regardless of any restrictions that may be forced upon us all.

1st night we walked in to find no food on as staff shortage, Second Night Great food was available. Reasonably priced very helpful staff, As our meal was brought out two of the bar staff finished their shift and joined to other girls at the end of the bar near where we were eating, I was disappointed and annoyed that all four were vaping near us. It's a good job for them as they charge up front otherwise I would have walked out.

What with Covid-19, it has been a difficult time for all this past 4-5 months. So as a treat myself, wife and some friends decided to reinstate our regular weekend away. We decided to call into Henry's Bar as it was such a delight pre-covid. we went on the 5th August and we decided to take full advantage of the help out to eat out offer and we were delighted and appalled at the same time
Delighted:
The staff have got it right – they have gone all out on the covid measures they have in place and all credit to them for getting it right, they were visors all through their time working and are active in track and trace (unlike other pubs in the area that we have visited) so top marks right there !
We did not book but just dropped in on the off chance of a table. It was packed to capacity, however they made us very welcome, found us a table (for 6) and were extremely friendly as always and ensured we were happy and enjoyed our food and drinks.
The food was cooked to perfection, no complaints, as we took full advantage of the help out to eat out offer. The staff worked tirelessly to keep everyone happy and catered for and they worked so hard.
Appalled:
Now I felt very bad for the staff by this point, because this HOTEO offer has sent everyone into a tail spin, you had holidaymakers just being so rude and ignorant, mainly because they don’t understand the concept of what Covid has done to the country and what some business are having to put in place to make it work for them. I witnessed holiday makers just being utterly obnoxious to the staff because they couldn’t have their own way and the food they wanted had been sold out, but as always the staff were very professional and offered an alternative. You just can’t please some people though.
The entire Henry's work force deserve a medal for everything they are trying to do right now and also for keeping it professional and not reacting to ignorant people that have passed through your doors this past week or so.
Keep up the great work Henry's Bar !

Although it’s a CAMRA pub, wasn’t over impressed by the real ale choice so opted to share a reasonably priced bottle of ok Pinot Grigio with my wife. However this place is all about its food which is good as it’s geared to being a pub restaurant at the moment. Very much enjoyed the tasty and filling steak and ale pie whilst my wife fully enjoyed the cottage pie, both excellent and very reasonably priced. Special mention for the staff. Very well organised in these challenging times.

Great meal and service today, first weekend after 2nd lockdown.
They knew all the rules, followed them and were very polite and friendly about it all.
So to the food. When we got there we wanted something off the evening menu even though it was 1pm in the afternoon and they were very happy to oblige... hand battered cod and chips and it was cooked just perfect.... crispy batter, soft white fish, chips and mushy peas.
Food was excellent and so was the service

On arrival and before i got to the bar one of the staff brought over a bowl of water for the dog with a welcome greeting, a nice touch as we had just been asked to leave another establishment because of the dog. There was plenty of variety at the bar and the wine menu was more than sufficient. we only intended on having a drink but looked at the menu and were not disappointed in the choice as it was not trying to sell itself as anything other than what it is, so after a pint we decided to eat and have a bottle of wine as well, with the food being plentiful, tasty and hot. the wine was reasonably priced. The service by staff was good and the ambiance in the bar was pleasant, will definitely return in the future

Just ate a meal gammon steak and a cod basket and the gammon was served undercooked with frozen chips, when asked to cook a bit more the waitress answered I apologise now if he says no. It came back with only 1 side cooked slightly more. I would avoid this place and go elsewhere the fish was obviously frozen coupons too better food from Iceland

I had hoped I might find a real Devon Scrumpy Cider here, but no luck. Having got through all the track and trace, hand washing, being shown to a table, we decided we might as well have a drink while we were there (the only cider being one fizzy one). So my husband ordered a gin and tonic and I asked for a rum and lemonade without ice. Mine came as a rum and coke with ice, which was near enough (a common mistake as most barstaff aren't used to people ordering it with anything other than coke). The pub was nice, and as long as you aren't wanting real scrumpy cider, I would recommend it. We failed to find real cider anywhere in Paignton or Torquay, so this pub certainly wasn't alone in that.

Hi there. Many thanks for you review.
I'm not sure what happened, but we keep Winkleigh Cider's, Sam's Medium (6%) on one of our handpulls, Sam's Autumn Mix Scrumpy (7.5%) and Sam's Cloudy Crush (4.5%) in boxes.
We also carry a substantial range of Sandford Orchards in bottles, as well as the very local Hunt's Ciders.
Plenty of real Devon ciders!

From the minute we arrived the Covid precautions made us feel in very safe hands. What a find! The service was great and very attentive. After spending 4 days in the area on holiday we were not expecting much from a bar on the Torbay Road but this place bucks the trend. The food was truly delicious - homemade, hot, tasty and just what we were after. The portions are huge and the menu offers a great range. The drinks menu offer a good range of local ales and ciders. We would 100% recommend this place for traditional pub classics, genuine claims of homemade delicious food and great atmosphere. A small thing but the toilets are also spotlessly clean... Again, a real sign of a proper place!

Tried this place for the first time & was very impressed. We had the Sunday roast which was my favourite in all the places we've tried! Everything was cooked to perfection and a lovely sized portion too, we opted to buy the cauliflower cheese & it absolutely delicious 😋
Later we went back for the fish and chips & that too was just amazing food, I would also like to say that they are spot on with covid safety & very well organised.
Thankyou , we will definitely be returning!

We recently visited this restaurant by chance, and were certainly not disappointed, the staff were very attentive and friendly, and nothing was not to much trouble. After the head chef finished serving another customer I asked her what her specialist dish was and she advised Lasagne and taking this on board that's what we ordered.
Our meals arrived around 30 minutes later piping hot and were excellent.
It just goes to show you should not judge a restaurant by what it looks like outside.
