Have been to Oldfields a number of times and had fantastic food but this was over two years ago. What has gone wrong? Ordering at 8.30,at least one main course was sold out! The food we did have was just ok. Steak was well cooked...More

We fancied a night out in our local town. having eaten regularly in Bistro 21 and Finbar's (Kings Lodge) we decided to try Oldfield's for a change. Wishing we had not. the menu looked promising with a selection of produce sourced locally - all good...More

Went into the restaurant , had pre-booked a table for 2 - was asked if the one next to the bar was ok - literally a table pushed up against the bar ??? Errrm - no ! Then offered a table in window which was...More

Distinctly average-to-poor food not worth the money charged for it. I ordered the spiced monkfish with saffron potatoes and beetroot mayonnaise as a main, what I got was a starter-sized portion with a four vanishingly small cubes of monkfish, some vaguely yellowish potatoes and a...More

Management and staff do not have a clue about their jobs, they'd rather stand behind the bar playing on phones and gossiping amongst each other than give good service. The food was alright, not worth the money we paid for it, especially when the chef...More

Had a lovely meal here last night, service was great, food very tasty. Used a groupon offer, well worth a visit. Will definitely go again. :-)

Lovely looking restaurant, however the service was dreadful, very slow and inattentive. We ordered burgers which were unbelievably bad. Like a frozen supermarket burger. Food was served just warm, then waited five full minuets for the condiments to arrive after asking three times, by which...More

Was in Durham for work and looking for a quick pleasant lunch and this looked just the place. £9.95 for two courses seemed reasonable. Upon entering the restaurant was very quiet and also.cold! Menu average, ordered braised shin of beef as did my partner. When...More

We ate here the other night and I could not believe what I was experiencing. We hadn't been for a couple of years, had forgotten about it and then randomly decided to go again! Bad move! Firstly, the menu! Everything was 'spiced' and weird…such as...More

Description
We’re proper cooks, serving real British food, cooked properly. We don’t mess around with our food. We cook it simply, without flashy sauces, so the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. The ingredients that go into our kitchen come from local farms and suppliers, some of whom we’ve known for years, like Joe Simpson of Cockfield, who rears, slaughters and butchers his own beef, Ian Alexander of Raby Estates with his fantastic venison and Carol Peacock from Sedgefield who makes world-beating blue cheese. Our veg comes from the local markets and our recipes are based on real British dishes with heritage.
