Visited yesterday with a friend for a catch up and breakfast. We sat in the Cathedral window area and both ordered the "Court breakfast" with toast and a mug of tea. It's help yourself to sauces and condiments and the meal arrived quickly and there was plenty of it. You could tell straight away that this was no "greasy spoon"... More

The pub was recommended to us whilst visiting Durham and we weren't disappointed. There's a great atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. A few unusual items on the menu - frogs legs, snails, ostrich, squirrel and zebra! But there were more traditional items too. Feeling adventurous, I chose the snails and ostrich which were both delicious.... More

Took our daughter for a lunch. Had baguette and chips and ale. Great homemade chips and warm baguettes. Dogs made welcome and offered water. A cozy and clean environment, perfect for a chilled out lunch. Friendly staff and prompt service.

Working close to this pub I've been in a few times for lunch with colleagues. It's not the cheapest in the area but it's always got a good atmosphere and the staff are friendly. A recent visit saw me and a colleague have a goats cheese salad. The staff were accommodating and swapped the bread for some extra olives in... More

Disappointing delays between ordering and receiving food, with a basic problem in synchronising the dishes ordered. Some attempt made to rectify the problem but I personally don't enjoy eating at a different time to my other family members. This is the first time I've been disappointed here but the night was ruined by the experience. I will be back as... More

As soon as we asked for a table here, we were made to feel like it was a hassle because the staff were busy even though they had tables available, they just needed cleaning. We sat down for about 10 minutes with no menus so I asked the waiter and he replied that he was just coming to that, as... More

You might overlook this brilliant pub but it's a great find. Tucked in between some houses and the prison (don't be put off) it's an amazing find. The food menu is so varied - rack of Chinese ribs, haunch of zebra, blue fin shark and hot spider crab!!!!! Gin emporium to boot!! Prices are not too bad - not cheap... More
