Wow what a wonderful pub. Crammed pack with a huge variety of craft beers specialising in Belgium beers also. Staff gave good advice as I too many lovely ales to choose from I couldnt make my mind up.... a very knowledgeable staff team. Definitely worth a visit. Although we didnt eat here the food looked and smelled divine

After reading reviews on here, my partner and I decided to call in for a beer. We both like traditional ales so this was right up our alley so to speak-and that is exactly where it is! A touch off the beaten track but a lovely hidden gem. Plenty of choice for every palette! My partner chose the triple chocolate... More

First and foremost this is a beer drinker's paradise, however the food is pretty good too. Meals are well cooked and presented with generous portion sizes. Great comfort food, pizzas, burgers, dogs, nachos etc. Nice atmosphere but can get rather busy at weekends.

Been a couple times just for a drink and can't wait to try their food. Staff are always so friendly and happy to help. Only complaint is that the drink are a little expensive, but happy to pay that just for a couple of drinks, especially in such a great atmosphere!

My fiancee and I stopped in here for drinks while killing time, place is very nicely done out and we felt comfortable. Large selection of drinks but a little pricey. We noticed the menus on the table and tried a pizza which very good.

Made a bee line for the Head of Steam whilst visiting Durham recently, following an excellent first visit there some time ago. Wish I hadn't bothered, and just kept the nice memories. Very disappointed this time around, I have seldom come across such miserable & unhelpful bar staff anywhere. Seriously, a smile costs nothing, nor does anything more than just... More

We visited without children as part of the summer holidays fun. This was our first visit. The Surroundings seem clean. There is a bit of an American Family bar atmosphere. The music is not too overwhelmingly loud . But not everybody would necessarily like the pop rock that was played. There are many pictures up across the walls et cetera. The... More

The Head of Steam is easily my favourite place in Durham for drinks and food. The staff are friendly, courteous and awesome, always up for a bit of a crack on. They are very knowledgeable of the products they supply and are happy to recommend you something new. The food is great. Between 1700 and 1900hrs, midweek, you can get... More

I love the Head of Steam. An often missed bar in Durham as it is located down what looks like an alleyway, which makes it ideal as it is away from street and secluded and has lovely outdoor seating and balcony. The drink selection is vast, probably the biggest or one of biggest in Durham with ales and beers on... More
