Set menu was reasonably priced. Although la carte was quite punchy. Food was ok. Steak was very good but quite small. White chocolate mousse was in fact a strange flavorless blancmange. Service was good. Overall distinctly average meal.

Booked ahead for 6 people to celebrate an 80th birthday. Had a choice of rooms to eat in, staff happy for us to bring our own birthday cake, and then arranged for the chef to cut and serve it (with candle) during coffee. One member...More

Went to Finbarr's again last night only to find out that there was a mix up with my reservation (probably my fault!). No matter. The manager sorted out a table for the four of us in a couple of minutes-she is very professional and always...More

We had a great meal last night from the set menu. It is quite expensive but the surroundings and food are always very good. The waitress was attentive and pleasent but the person who appeared to be running things was poor. Zero sense of humour,...More

Limited choice of starters, medium cooked rib eye steak very tough, plate full of searingly hot potato wedges (not triple cooked chips as advertised), moderate selection of side orders. I have visited this restaurant many times, but standards appear to have slipped.

Enjoyed dinner at Finbarr's this evening. We predominately chose from the Sunday Fayre menu, but five of made a diverse choice of courses, all of which were first class with impeccable service. My wife is vegetarian, my 88 year old mother more traditional in taste...More

Here for lunch with a family member. A reasonable choice of dishes on the menu. I chose the cheese souffle starter as main course and this was ample for a light lunch. Service was, on the whole, very good. This is not a budget restaurant....More

Although we live 300 miles form this restaurant, we like to return when we are in the area. The food is lovely and the waiting staff well trained. On this occasion, the menu was not quite to my taste but perhaps it will be next...More

I have eaten here when it was The Bistro. It looks much the same, an attractive building with several dining areas. It is not in the centre of Durham, so we needed to drive (it is only about five minutes from the station by car)....More
