Fast service, greeted straight away and apologised for some of the meals being sold out, which was ok as we were just having cream tea. The meals we did see looked amazing, no scrimping on portion size. Cream tea was a substantial size with large portions of cream and jam.

A nice drop in for a traditional Devon lunch, whether it be pasties of cream tea. Not the cheapest, but good quality.

A little slow but worth the wait. Had two coffees and drank them while waiting for coffee to be ground to take home. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely have a meal next time.

We only visited for a coffee and turned out we stayed for lunch! There are a variety of options for food - order from the menu or pick from the counter. Best bit definitely the (possibly) home-made chips which were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Yu-um x 4 happy customers!

No local knowledge, we stumbled across Ballantyne's. We had a quick lunch, served by friendly staff. Generous portions, delicious cream teas.

Situated opposite the Pannier Market and central to the town, this is a very good lunchtime venue. They offer a variety of sandwiches, panini, jackets, soup, simple hot meals, cream teas, scones and cakes. The service is friendly, if a little slow, but it's worth the wait. Portions are very generous and you get a proper good sized pot of... More

Since we moved to Devon, Ballantyne's in Barnstable has become our favorite place to lunch. The food and service is always great. I would thoroughly recommend the pies and pasties but the all day breakfast is a must. I have no hesitation in recommending Ballantyne's for a great luncheon.

Easy to miss when you walk past as the entrance is onto the delicatessen. Excellent baguettes, big chips and cakes. Well worth a visit.

Myself and my husband stumbled upon this cafe quite by accident whilst we were visiting Barnstaple. At first we hadn't realised it was a café, it was only when we were walking past that we noticed people eating. To be honest, it was the sight of the gourmet chips that lured us in! And we weren't disappointed. I ordered the... More
