We popped in while passing by for a quick drink and ended staying for quite a while. While we were in there we met our hoteliers who said that they prepare the old rustic charm, and I must admit, I enjoyed it too. We did not have any food but looking at other peoples, it looked great and reasonably priced.... More

The food was delicious and relatively cheap but the beer was pricey. The place itself had an old school British pub feel to it.

Excellent service from very welcoming staff on the 21st and 22nd Aug. Enjoyed two lovely, well cooked and hot meals. Will visit again as the standard of food and beer is not only good but also are the prices compared to restaurants in the same area!

We visit the John Peel quite regularly for Sunday meal and the food is always excellent. I nearly always have the gammon as it is excellent, my wife tries other dishes and again is always good. The landlady does all the cooking and deserves top marks for the food

We called in for a meal here and can highly recommend this venue. Our meals were gammon steaks, Scampi and jacket potato and tuna. We would go again.

After a horrendous experience at Rastelli's (Just don't ever go there), my wife and I were a little fed up wishing we'd stayed another night in Langdale instead of moving on to Bowness. However, our last ditch drop in to John Peel was the redeeming factor. Good beer served with a sense of humour and a warm GENUINE smile saved... More

Popped in for lunch when on a day coach trip. We'd looked at the menus of the other pubs in the area and they more or less served similar meals. The John Peel didn't have any dogs in though so we chose to eat there. Think we'll try somewhere else next time we visit. I chose Chicken Jalfrezi from the... More

If I could have licked the plate I would. Lamb casserole to die for. This is not just pub grub. So much more. Also had pasta bake and half chicken. Highly recommend.

We struggled to find good old fashioned food in this area so decided to try this place...the food was excellent. Well done to the chef....the chicken and vegetables were superb and we found a nice red wine to accompany our meal.

Only went in for a drink but put off by the stench of garlic everywhere plus it was very dark and dingy. Went and sat in what i assume was the beer garden but turned out to be just a few chairs and a couple of tables right next to some industrial size dustbins. Why couldn't they have fenced off...
