There are quite few comments on here about how quite this pub is, and theres probably a good reason for it. I have nothing against good old fashioned pubs, in fact I love them. But im afraid this is need of a lick of paint and felt cold and damp. We didnt eat here to be honest, but the menu... More

Came across this nice traditional pub while looking for somewhere to take the kids for tea. Good choice of childrens meals. Salmon steak was very tasty and all the meals were very generous in size! Good value for money and nice ale too.

we wandered in on the hottest evening so far as our original dinner plans were scuppered. so a little walk down the road brought us here. A lovely old fashioned pub that seemed much quieter than the brasher one next door. We chose our food and drinks and sat enjoying the varied selection of music. the food was good we... More

I went into town to find something quick and hearty to eat, I checked a few of the restaurants and pubs to find something to eat, Many of the places were busy and had tables waiting for their food to be served, I then stumbled across the Old John Peel Inn, as I stepped inside I was reminded of how... Can easy miss this pub we have been on holiday round here but had no idea it was here. Just off the main high street lies this lovely, cosy, real pub serving real beer and great food. (If when you walk in you see a local drinking at the bar you know your onto a winner) The pie may come... More

We loved this place. Great traditional pub, friendly staff, decent 80's music, comfortable seating. The food was excellent, plenty of it and good value for money. I can recommend fish and also the lamb, which was really lovely and tender. We couldn't understand why it didn't seem to be half as busy as a couple of places we had tried... More

This pub is a bit out of the way of the busy part of bowness so was very quiet. Food was OK. Service very quick, very cheap meal.

We had a nice lunch time meal here, the food being of a reasonable quality. I think my chips were the last to be served as I was given all the scrappy hard ends. The rest of my party had the best deal! A little disappointed that no one came to ask if the meals were satisfactory because I would... More

Looking for somewhere to eat. We chose the John Peel. Bit perturbed as the other pubs in the area seemed full to overflowing. Found a table with ease. Ordered food and drinks. When the food arrived we were more than surprised with the content. It was cooked exactly as we asked. The drinks were perfect too. Excellent.

Typical old pub with aged decor but the food was priced well and excellent, we had the Steak and Kidney Pudding and it was lovely, Salmon steak was tasty with veg and the pasta bake was also a hit. Rather than the typical plastic pub try this old gem.
