We popped in here to see what time afternoon tea was served. A nice waitress told us 2pm but added that it would be busy so it would be worth our while popping in just before 2. On our return the lovely lady recognised us and had reserved a table for our use. The tea consisted of; Sandwiches- cream cheese... More

We'd phoned in advance to inform the cafe manager that we had a wheelchair user in our party and we were seated at a table where they'd made space for her. The food was excellent (a delicious Cesar salad and a huge portion of yummy chocolate cake for dessert). The staff were super friendly, helpful and efficient. Will be going... More

Pleasant enough cafe on the ground floor of this majestic building. The cafe is waitress service but despite this had to get up and get cutlery myself. The egg roll (2 x fried eggs in a floury bap) was over cooked and contained pieces of eggshell. The bread was like cottonwool and was hard to swallow. All in all not... More

Had a very nice light lunch at the Bowes Museum. A bit pricey and expect to pay about £11 a head with a soft drink. The food was of good quality and very tasty. My wife had a beetroot and brie tart and it was delicious. Good service and gorgeous surroundings.

It is always a pleasure to have a break here (and possible to go to the tea room without paying). There is always a good range of cakes and the staff are helpful, though it can be slow. Average - perhaps not, but not very good

Cafe Bowes is located on the ground floor of the magnificent Bowes Museum. We were visiting the museum, but it's possible to visit the cafe only (without having to incur the entry fee). Although we visited the cafe on a busy lunchtime, the staff were very friendly and the service was prompt. The menu has a reasonable choice of food... More

We were attending the Shoe Exhibition and decided to treat ourselves to lunch beforehand. The food was delicious but staff could not have been less interested. Their manner was far from helpful, polite or charming. We were a party of 7 and you would think that this was exactly what they would have wanted. To add the tables around us... More

A good place to sit after touring the lovely museum. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A quick snack and ready to go to the next place.

Popped into Cafe Bowes while on a visit to the museum. The serving staff were efficient and very friendly. Had a huge slice of the most amazing matcha green tea, raspberry and jasmine cake which was worth the visit alone! The cafe is in a lovely space at the front of the museum overlooking the grounds. It can get busy... More

Quite expensive and full of a lunch time. Food was ok but expensive. Service was brisk but be prepared to wait for a table.
