Both myself and my friend live and work in Barnard Castle, I've only had coffee and cake here before... I always think this coffee shop is very "touristy" and a bit posh to be honest... But OH I'll definitely be going again. We had "afternoon tea for 2" and it was absolutely phenomenal.

Hadn't read any reviews and chose at random, very glad we did. We had a panini and the club sandwich and tea which came to around £17 ,so not particularly cheap but the quality was excellent with generous fillings and beautifully presented. The staff were very pleasant too, so all in all we thought it was well worth the money.... More

My friend and I have just spent the most loveliest of afternoons chatting and having a delicious afternoon tea in this fabulous cafe. The service was efficient and friendly and the sandwiches, cakes and treats on offer were fabulous. Can highly recommend.

A wonderful lunch with friends. The food was delightful. Very well presented, very fresh and flavoursome. Very nice clean surroundings with polite and helpful staff. All three of us said the food was lovely and certainly the best cooked jacket potato I have tasted in a long long time. The menu is not extensive but with a decent selection including... More

Known as a rendezvous cafe, Clarendon's offers discrete as well as sharing tables. A small cafe menu without sophistication makes up for lack of huge choice by consistent good food. The homemade soups are delicious, though the accompanying bread is boring and dry granary without variation. We also enjoy coming in for a hot chocolate and a sit-down on a... More

Called in for a quick late lunch. Nice surroundings, but needed some quiet background music as it was silent, and you could hear everyone's conversations, even at the tables at the other side of the room. Hubby had a very substantial BLT with big chunks of fresh chicken, and really enjoyed it. I ordered chicken and lemon Mayo wrap. It... More

Searched out because of their wonderful website. Their lunch menu was a little less expansive than we expected but each of us found a choice that was excellent. Val was particularly taken with the high tea, which was served up earlier in the day than you would expect.

We were lucky - it hardly rained, we went straight into a car parking space, the market was in, the Bowes Museum was wonderful and we got a table straight away at Clarendons. Very good home made soups, bread and puddings/ cakes. They did a special salad for me. Not the cheapest, but definitely quality. Highly recommended
