Come for lunch approximately 2 weeks ago. Nice surroundings in the countryside. Our sandwiches came quick but the young waitress forgot our sides until reminded however me and my wife did not mind. However she commented she forgot the side as she was tired from working without a break, I was shocked as this is not professional. I hope this... More

Glad you enjoyed your lunch with us. All our Staff get a break so its a shame that they were tired. If you had bought it to our attention at the time we could have dealt with it in a professional way at the time. They get to have breaks after the busy period has passed, with food provided on... Good ambience, good food, great wines and a beautiful setting. Make sure you book. Lunch menu is available and there is a special board that offers great dishes.

We have been visiting the John Barleycorn for years and have continually been disappointed with how rude and unfriendly the management and staff are there. However, my sister had seen good reviews and because it was ideally situated, decided to host her wedding day lunch there after a small service in Bishops Stortford. The booking was taken knowing it was... More

Go here as often as possible as the food is always amazing. Good friendly service large portions, you really can't go wrong, definitely one of the best food pubs in the area. Prices are not ridiculous but you may want to book as they do get very busy especially Sundays.

Met with friends at the John Barleycorn on Saturday for a late lunch; we arrived at 3:30. There were plenty of staff, all polite and very helpful. We chose not to sit at the table that we reserved, instead we sat outside in the sunshine in the beautiful gardens. We were served at the table by one of the waitresses,... More

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here which as always is a pleasure as it is consistently good. Over the years we have tried most dishes on the menu and they have all been 10/10. The deserts are all homemade delicious and hard to resist. The staff are lovely and can't be more helpful. Even if you want a lunch and... More

Had the most fabulous meal Saturday lunchtime, weather was very hot but the airconnditioning was just right not too cold. I had skate my favourite fish which melted in the mouth, new potatoes and asparagus, delicious. My husband had a very tasty proper burger and great chips, he also had the cheese board which was the best I've ever seen,... More
