I booked dinner at The Blue Ball because we were having a family reunion. I wanted everything to be perfect ( as the organiser), and had a lot of email exchanges with Pip the owner. She reassured me I would be in good hands and we were not disappointed. The pub has a lovely country/gastro style, service was friendly and... More

Stopped through on the way home, was early evening and we ate outside. The place is charming and traditional with thatched roof and a small outdoor seating area. It was quiet and our food arrived promptly and was excellent quality well presented. The menu was interesting and had quite a few different offerings beyond your standard pub grub. I would... More

This really looked like an attractive place and the menu sounded interesting, but reality failed to live up to the appearance. Salads were uninspired (although the pigeon I ordered was cooked deliciously). I found cellophane wrapping in my salad (from the shrink-wrapped and definitely not 'roasted' beetroot? I decided not to make a fuss, just pointed it out to the... More

The atmosphere for Sunday lunch was almost enchanting. There was live soft jazz for the duration of the meal and the attentiveness of the table servers was spot on. So what was the problem? The meat! We were not sure whether it was beef or lamb but it was dry and sinewy which was a shame, particularly as we paid... More

What a find. A beautiful pub in a beautiful village. The menu was full of choice but not so much that it took forever to decide. The staff were super friendly and welcoming with nothing too much trouble. The food was gorgeous and we will most definitely return. Can't recommend highly enough

We went there for an ad hoc meal in June of this year and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, the price and the excellent service. We have joined their mailing list for promotional events and would definitely go back with friends.

We had a family meal here on a Sunday lunchtime with a 3 year old and everything was excellent. The building itself is old & full of character and is much larger inside than you would imagine. Most things on the menu were either gluten free or had a gluten free option which was great. The food was very good... More

First of all, to the mean spirited vegetarian wankers who negatively reviewed this place 9 days ago; bugger off back under the rock you both live under. If you wish to indulge your unhealthy lifestyle, do it somewhere other than the English countryside where animal husbandry has been going on for about 3000 years. Now then, as for the truth;... Our arrival on spec looking for something to eat was friendly and welcoming, we took the menus (we are vegetarian) heavily geared towards meat, we ordered a side dish of homemade bread and olives, and beetroot salad, the olives fine, bread was more like a scone we ordered extra bread (before we had tasted) this did not arrive until my wife... We're genuinely sorry to read how disappointed you were when you visited on spec 2 Sundays ago so have been looking into this. Just so that you're aware, we also previously attempted to post a management response as soon as we saw your review but have just called Tripadvisor & found out that this was not published as we included...
