The staff are all wonderful here. Helpful and polite! The lunch menu is brilliant and we booked into the restaurant for our evening meal. We were not disappointed. Must admit that it's a place to go if you're feeling flush or it's a special occasion! We loved it and will be coming again. Thanks!

Originaly planned to stay for one night but at the last minute booked for two, so glad we did. We wanted somewhere unpretentious and friendly in town so we could use it as a base. Food is locally sourced and good quality, a busy little bar and a nice atmosphere. Remember it is an old building so rooms are small... More

Often a little tricky to find dog friendly pubs in a town, we had missed the lunch menu by 5 minutes but they had a bar snacks and sandwiches menu which was more than adequate. The pulled pork paninni was delicious. The chips were a bit of a let down, they were clearly made from real potatoes (not frozen chips)... More

The best bar in town has been spoilt. For some reason the comfortable seating and the usable tables have recently all been removed and replaced by big chairs and a sofa which have reduced the seating by about 30%.What is worse, a couple of old dining room tables with hard uncomfortable chairs have been stuffed into the two corners by... Why, oh why, has this super town local hotel/tavern been furnished in pseudo (large) chesterfield furniture and spoiling the ambience and comfort of the customers that have known and frequented this establishment for many years. The main bar used to have welcoming seating areas but the current owners have decided to furnish it with a variety of oversized, 'Sale Room',... More

Day trip for lunch today. Lovely pub, traditional and modern restaurant venue. Gorgeous food. Very reasonable priced lunch menu. Had goats cheese starter and whitebait followed by roast pork and Salmon with lemon butter sauce. Panecotta, sherbert sorbet. Very large portions and tasty food.

Pulled off the main road and had a delightful stay in this modernised period hotel. Lovely meal, great beer and an after dinner wander along the High Street.

Visited for lunch and was amazed at the well-kept historic interior - bar room, beautiful library and airy restaurant too. Excellent ales, gourmet food (had to try rabbit Ballantine which I'd never heard of, and the tomato panacota, and my partner had a huge starter portion of whitebait followed by the tastiest pork faggots and mash). Would definitely return and... More
