Great beer, good staff and interesting building. Extensive menu and food looked good although we didn't eat. Just wonder if it turns into a bit of a holiday camp club house in high season BUT would still visit.

Only vegetarian main was a mushroom ravioli type thing in a tomato based sauce. It was not good. The flavors didn't go together at all. I regret being nice and paying for it rather than sending it back. Tho no one asked how we liked our mains either. If it had been good, it still would have been over priced.... More

Went for lunch with my Book Group and we all enjoyed it. We had to select the menu in advance and there was certainly a range of choices. The sat us in the dinning room which had a welcoming coal fire and a lot of Christmas atmosphere. We were the only people using the room which made it like a... More

we stayed here a few weeks ago. loved the historical feel of the place (wonky floors, low ceilings etc and it was in a very convenient location for us to travel around. we were thrilled with the delicious afternoon snack of home made nachos - absolutely delicious. however, were very dissapointed later that evening with the 'hunters chicken', this is... Stayed for two nights. Hotel is very old, parts date back to 1570, Diarist room on 2nd floor was fine, ancient, black and white, (although kingsize bed sloped out from the centre!) and warm. Shower also fine; tea and proper coffee available in room. Breakfast was mainly from locally sourced ingredients. We ate in both evenings and food was reasonable... More

Do not know how this establishment can charge over 11 pound for their ploughmans is beyond me. One small slice of apple, some salad leaves, a smallish chunk of cheddar, two small slices of ham and rustic bread. No butter and when requested was provided plastic solid butter pack that could not spread. For the price some rolled butter on... More

On getting out of the shower I discovered glass on the bathroom floor. 20 minute's to get served for drinks after a 10 minute wait to put food order in, only to be told we could have orderd drinks with food. Nachos as a starter were fantastic, the rest of the food was poor, worst steak and salad ever. Pie... More

A dad walks in to a bar with two children .....no this isn't a joke and the food, service and atmosphere were all seriously brilliant at this old coaching inn. The place is rustic and ' oldy worldly ' with lots of areas to find a quiet spot to relax. Real fire in the conservatory and stone flag stone floors,... More
