Traditional Italian Restaurant in Ashford Kent. Providing A La Carte dining throughout monday to saturday for lunch and dinner. Set lunch menu at £13 three course and £10 two course. Set dinner menu at £19 three course £15 two course.
"Trat" has been in Ashford for decades; pretty sure it was here when I first moved to the area in 1991. It's a local institution and has been our family's default option for a celebratory meal ever since, but this is the first time we'd...been back in several years due to the pandemic.
First impressions good; redecorated, extended dining area, freshened up the outside and, get this, new menus! The old laminated menus, with the price changes added in permanent marker, were one of my favourite things. They also showed the unchanging nature of the menu, so I was a little nervous that the classics from 25+ years ago would also be gone. They weren't, they were all still there, a (redesigned, but still laminated) comfort blanket for the mind and stomach, but there is now a rather larger "specials" board for those that like variety.
Trat is classic, not retro, and has a northern Italian feel to it. The menu is meat-heavy with beef, veal and chicken. Fish features prominently in the starters. Pasta and risotto are available in "starter" and "main" sizes and are cream-heavy. And then there's the small matter of the dessert trolley......Although there are vegetarian options, I'm not so sure about vegan and TBH I'd be surprised; I don't think it would fit well with the kitchen style. Any confirmed omnivore is well looked after.
Whenever we go to Trat, we tell ourselves in advance we'll have something different this time, and then order pretty much what we ordered last time and every time, and it's still wonderful. This time we..... ordered the same things we order every time, and they were wonderful. Portions are generous, service unobtrusive, the food always beautiful, and the prices have been held down impressively, hardly moved in years. You can still get a pasta main for under £11.
I'm pleased they've survived the pandemic, I'm pleased they are busy (book in advance, esp. at weekends), I'm very pleased they have modernised slightly but kept all the unchanging elements that make the place what it is and quality has been absolutely maintained. RecommendedMore
Started off as a meal for two but as Monday progressed it became a family meal for 14! The restaurant Manager was only too happy to accommodate and we were served, as always at this lovely restaurant with impeccable, friendly service.
A generous portion of...Halibut from the Specials board, steaks, chicken, pasta and calamari flying around the table! All cooked and served with care. Not to mention the fantastic sweet trolley and Irish coffees. This place is a gem.
Top marks yet againMore
Once again a splendid evening. Great food preordered for 26 of us. Exactly as ordered, seating exactly as planned. Hot plates hot food and plenty of it. Three courses served like clockwork. Clean crisp linen table clothes bright clean cutlery and glasses....everything was super...Thank you...Kenny & Mrs Kenny. Juan & Art and the back up staff for looking after us so well ONCE AGAIN!More
This restaurant has been consistently good for many many years. We had not been for a while and went as a treat for our anniversary . What an utter disappointment! Poor quality over salted food, 'chewy' filet steak, supermarket bread rolls, and meagre side dish...portions
I don't know if the owner/management have changed, but this restaurant has deteriorated significantly.!! We feel like we have been ripped off! Never againMore
Going to Trattoria Romana is always a really lovely experience. Consistent, delicious and comforting food, in an atmosphere of bygone years. Friendly, efficient, charming staff and Kenny, the owner is an absolute delight. Excellent value too.
Trattoria Romana has been a family favourite for many years. It never fails to please ! A delicious meal with warm friendly service in very pleasant surroundings.

The dessert trolley filled will sweet treats, rude not to ! good to be back :DMore
This restaurant is stuck in a time warp, the 70's, and it is excellent. We have eaten here a few times and really enjoy the atmosphere. The food is very good and the service is spot on. It is a traditional English Italian! One of...our diners veal was a bit tough, no excuses instant apologies and an alternative offered and the cost taken off the bill. The prices her are very reasonable for such good food.More
We have been coming here several times a year for 40 years. Never had a bad meal. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are always superb. Had another anniversary meal there last night. As good as ever. Excellent quality, hot tasty food.
Always...will recommend them.More
