No artful stylish nonsense here in this low-eaved village pub. A big generous fire, friendly host and his chef-wife and excellent homely cooking. We had fish pie (couldn't be bettered), a vegetable tagine, apple and calvados ice-cream and a big jug of coffee (plus a glass each of good Bordeaux) and came away thinking this is going to join the... A traditional pub (welcomes dogs in the bar if the jar of bone shaped treats on the side are anything to go on) in a picturesque village with good beer and a friendly welcome. We booked ahead for a group of 8 to celebrate a birthday. The menu was original and appealing - the choice wasn't huge (which is a... More

Visited the Dun Cow for the first time today & was most pleased. Firstly impressions are its an old rural pub that had probably seen better days but like so many would have disappeared were it not for new & creative owners. A pleasant bar area for drinkers leads to a dining room with a garden to the rear. What... More

We chose to eat here, as during a summer visit for a couple of pints, a fellow drinker recommended the food. Not many people eating for a Friday night but the food and wine were good. An excellent beer (XT) also made it an enjoyable visit. I would have enjoyed an espresso but it wasn't available.

We moved to the area ten months ago and since discovering The Dun Cow haven't bothered eating out anywhere else. There is simply no need as the menu here changes each month and we know the chef puts her heart and soul into cooking everything from locally sourced raw ingredients. She even makes her own ice creams. Dogs are welcome... More

Popped in for lunch after visiting some friends who had moved nearby and recommended the food here. The Dun Cow is a classic village pub - quiet surroundings, good hospitality, good selection of beers and wine and proper home-cooked food. We sampled the wide variety of food they had on offer and it was simply delicious. Although we all live... More

Had dinner with friends here as we were staying nearby. We were the only folk eating in the dining area on a Friday night. A small menu - we chose the Shepherds pie which I thought was overpriced. It was tasty but very dry - same with the Mexican pork dish. Homemade ice cream was very rich - local honey... More

A traditional Village Pub & Kitchen in the heart of the village of Hornton, North Oxfordshire. Comfortable, relaxed, welcoming and informal, we offer a range of cask ales, lagers, ciders and a carefully chosen wine list, most of which are available by the glass.Been walking or gardening all morning? Just leave your boots by the door and warm your feet by the fire. What about the kids? We think that they should be welcomed, not just tolerated.Just want a quiet drink, not a three course meal? Well, that’s fine by us but we do also serve unique and outstanding food. We buy superb ingredients directly from farmers & producers (mostly within a 30 mile radius of the pub) and we cook them in a way that lets their freshness and quality shine through. We’re also serious about seasonality and our menus are completely changed every month to reflect all that is freshest and at its best right now.
