Afternoon snack- French onion soup, chef made, cherry and almond cake with cream also home made. Well executed by professional waiting and kitchen staff. Open kitchen to watch the chef working away. And the attached book shop is a delight to browse and buy. And they found my hat!

I do quite a bit of travelling around the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains, which means I get to sample different places to eat. Booth's Cafe is one of those places; I just love eating in when I come to Hay. The food there is a mix between light bights and well made delicious naughtiness. If I could, I would... More

We visited yesterday for the first time, after a large breakfast we couldn't manage to eat much but the soup was one of the best onion soups I've tasted and the home made lemonade delicious. We definitely hope to have a return visit. The books were an amazing collection too. Well worth a visit.

Our second family visit to this very special cafe. We were welcomed and served by Maxine who is an outstanding waitress. The food and drinks were exceptional in both quality and presentation. We enjoyed celebrating our daughter's birthday in this delightful venue and left feeling delighted with the whole experience. A beacon of culinary practice.

We were recommended to try this by the landlady of the pub at which we were staying. Great location at the back of Richard Booth's bookshop. Restaurant looked busy but not quite full as we descended from the shop, but we were asked if we had booked in the same breath as that with which we were welcomed and then... More

My husband had heard about Hay-on-Wye and was determined to visit... and I'm so glad he did! The whole town is filled with books and bookstores... our favourite and the most famous being Richard Booths bookshop! We could have spent all day wondering the the fabulous isles of words, sentences, paragraphs and stories...

Modern beautifully designed space behind this brilliant bookstore. Ended up dropping in every day of our holiday, though never a short stay because working one's way to the café through enticing shelves is challenging. Excellent coffee, clean simple modern cooking with twists on old favourites. Super Welsh Rarebit with chilli, home made Boston Baked Beans, and delicious small mince pies... More

Had a dread for visiting this place, based on the 1 star reviews here. But we arrived before the lunchtime rush and had no trouble getting seated. I had Welsh Rarebit, for the first time and it was really good, and I had a small portion of chunky chips on the side, they were very good too, but for 3.95... More

Outstanding in all respects - the food, the ambience and the service. Located within Richard Booth's amazing bookshop, the cafe is located at the rear and offers about 8 choices of mains plus desserts, snacks and drinks. We had venison pie with home cut chips, smoked haddock brandade and sloe/juniper cordial drinks - overlooking a nicely decorated courtyard in the... More

Having been disappointed with our choice of lunch venue in Hay on our last visit a few weeks ago, we decided to try this cafe today and were delighted to have such an enjoyable experience this time round. We were greeted straight away, shown to a table and a carafe of water and glasses were immediately placed on the table... More
