Huge, varied bookshop with mixture of old and new with a stylish, bright cafe/restaurant serving delicious, well-chosen food and drinks. You could spend the day here!

This is our favourite place to eat in the Hay area and is on great form. Took a well travelled friend there for lunch who thought it was wonderful. Excellent food and service but he thinks the Bloody Mary deserves an accolade all if it's own-perhaps Crowned Bloody Mary?! Never had a finer one anywhere. Terrific even though packed out.

I have visited Hay sine 1991 but for some reason this I have never visited the bookshop cafe until now - October 2016. The cafe is great. The food is great value and very well prepared. The staff and very welcoming and the bookshop is a wonderful place in which to browse post meal.

The bookshop itself if of course worth visiting but a new find for us was the cafe, which seems fairly new. This is a great place for lunch. The menu has a good range of unusual dishes. The cafe is light and airy (despite being downstairs) and the service was excellent.

Generally the staff are great but with one glaring exception. The Owner. Ms Haycock has all the charm of a rattle snake from her native America. She insists on being a 'server' in the cafe, god knows why, she is the only one that walks around with a miserable face all the time. My girls friends and I have been... More
