Wow! More books than a library! Every subject catered for. If the book isn't here, you probably don't need it! Also a cafe and a cinema in house too!

I was pleasantly surprised. Having had poor coffee in several cafes in Hay we went here for brunch. The food was good as was the coffee.

Lengthy visits to this great bookshop were followed by very good quality light lunches. Homemade soup was excellent. Salads were great.

The waitresses were exceptionally good and the food was very nice, if a little limited in choice at lunchtime. Perhaps £1.50 for a small additional slice of cheese for your ploughman's is a bit much, but still: good food at a reasonable price.

Ever since I introduce my daughter to this bookshop, it has become a tradition that it is our first stop. This shop has a really good selection of both fiction and non-fiction books, and even now has its own coffee shop.

Has there been a change in the kitchen? We have really enjoyed the food in the past but off late (2 or 3 months) its not the same. Excellent triple cooked chips and hand made aioli appear to have been replaced with fat potatoes and garlic mayo, a recently ordered red onion and skirt steak dish was poor (steak=slice/slab of... The best of the Hay bookshops in terms of variety of books. The prices were a little steeper than most of the other shops though, but you can't visit Hay and not go here!

Possibly one of Hay's best kept secrets is the cafe come restaurant in Richard Booths Bookshop - 44 Lion Street. One the few places I know that not only serve only Monmouth Coffee, they do so passionately setting the machine each morning and only proceeding when the barista agrees it is perfect. I personally love either a sultry espresso or... More

As a hater of "sheds" purporting to be a cinema, Richard Booth's cinema was a great discovery. Pop into the cinema itself, online or by phone, to book, which given the small size is probably essential. Don't bother asking in the bookshop, because you may repeat our experience and be told by the older lady staff member, rather sniffily "oh,... More

Not visited for some time. It has always been somewhere to eat mainly because the triple fried chips have been so good. Sadly not so this time. To be fair it could be the season and the potato variety was not available to make the crispy on the outside but floury on the inside chips that I have enjoyed. Still... More
