Went with work for Xmas party night, expected a great night with good food - how disappointing! Food was awful, starter of slow roasted belly pork came out and resembled blocks of lard with no visible meat. Luckily managed to change my order for soup....More

We went as a couple for lunch recently. Very nice restaurant to sit and enjoy the garden views. Food was nice, not amazing but thought that drinks were expensive .

Cannot get served in this place if more than one activity is on. Have been to dinner dances in the past and although the food was ok and I mean just ok, the service was bad

Good local Brecon ales on draught and an excellent Rioja with the meal. Smoked salmon starter was wonderful but I was caper lite, others had more, nothing worse than caper envy! Rump steak was local and a good portion. Very tender but not as flavoursome...More

The best bit - ie the main requirement - was that the food was very good. The staff are very friendly but still inexperienced. When we arrived we were offered different menus even before we had a chance to sit down, which took a while...More

I was here with a group of local people for our annual dinner. All the food was pre-ordered. My soup starter was good and the bread was great. However my main course of roast beef was dreadful...a thin slice of leather, with woeful yorkshire pudding...More

Located in the Victorian market town of Hay-on-Wye in the Welsh Marshes, The Swan hotel is set in a snug 'n' cosy grade 2 listed Georgian coaching inn. Literary luvvies and local food lovers are regulars in the hotel's two restaurants the formal dining room, which serves dinner and Sunday lunches, and the less formal bistro which serves lunch and informal dinners. The hotel also has a garden ideal for summer al fresco dining. Head Chef Harry Mackintosh has created a traditional British menu with favourites including the pan-seared scallops with sunblushed tomatoes and orange sauce; the duck breast served with herb mash and chorizo cassoulet; and the classic Eton mess with crushed meringue, Chantilly cream and raspberries.
