This used to be such a great place, what happened? We ordered 'the special' mushroom soup only to be served luke warm so called 'spicy parsnip' soup. We got an apology.....the mains were slow in coming .... and not hot! And very ordinary. (I was not aware there was a shortage of carrots) Derserts was ordered by two of the... More

A stopover for lunch on our way home from Bournemouth. Had one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had. We all had starters and beef which was cooked perfectly. The sticky toffee pudding was , well absolutely amazing! The staff were also very good especially the landlady. Oh and children and dogs are welcome buy we couldn't find... More

Tucked away but close to the m4 this is a lovely peaceful haven. Friendly landlady, nice staff, good pub food, although limited desserts on the day I visited but the one I had was divine (sticky toffee pudding). Decor could probably do with an update but somehow adds to its charm. Beer garden, lovely views. What's not to like.

We stopped off wanting a quiet country pub with a garden for the dog, for a late lunch after a long drive: The Winterbourne Arms was just the job! My companion had the excellent sausage and mash (local sausages) and a "Good Old Boy" pint from Abingdon's Loose Cannon Brewery, and I had the butterfly prawns (crisp and dry) with... More

Our meal was quite delicious and well worth the wait after ordering which really wasn't a problem. The pub has lots of character and the landlady is very pleasant and helpful. A wonderful location too - once you have found it! I really couldn't fault our visit in any way and will definitely return.

Arranged to meet family here at quite short notice after reading reviews on this site. Would concur that a sat nav is pretty essential if you don't know the area. But what a find, wonderful quiet location and well worth the effort. Landlady absolutely charming and most helpful in every respect. Please don't go here if you are in a... More

We stopped here for lunch on a journey from the midlands to the south coast. We chose it completely by chance and were so glad we did. The garden is beautiful and the pub itself is exactly what a country pub should be. The staff were lovely, friendly and polite. The food (we had venison, calves liver and chicken korma)... More

We had lunch here today for the first time. The pub is tucked away in the village of Winterbourne, near Newbury. It was a convenient central meeting point for us and relatives from the New Forest and Stratford upon Avon. The pub was very quiet, even for a Thursday lunchtime, but that suited us. As an earlier reviewer noted, the... More

My wife and I came her on a weekday evening, with her aunt and cousin, and I am so delighted that we did. The hospitality was, as usual, superb, and everyone thought their food was excellent. If you get the chance to try the wild mushroom starter, do - even among a meal of excellent dishes, this managed to stand... More

We visited the pub on a Sunday lunchtime in August. It's a bit out of the way to find, but that's also a bonus, very quiet. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and also accommodating when we knew that some of our group were running late and our order would be spread out over a few hours. We ate... More
