If you have not experienced this magic land then add this place to the top of your wish list! I have had so many afternoon teas and mainly in London but this afternoon tea exceeded them all. The detail, thought and love put in to...my afternoon tea was practically perfect in every way. Delighted to finally find somewhere in Colchester this special and already have so many different themed afternoon teas in for 2020!More

Definitely place to visit to admire the interesting interior! Great place to go back memory lane to our childhood. Amazing attention to details in decorations! Unfortunately food was mid range. Too much attention to look rather than taste. Came back few months later and unfortunately...food quality still the same. Staff very friendly!More

Second visit and not disappointed. We had a wizards brunch that my son loved on our first visit (especially the opportunity to have his picture taken in the very authentic cupboard under the stairs!) and I knew we would have to return as a family...due to our love of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. The attention to detail and special touches make it really unique. We were warmly greeted and taken care of. Advise to pre-book and order special novelty dishes for particular occasions/to delight children. There is a different theme each month and it’s a wonderful treat (although some may find them pricey I feel worth it for the wow factor and creative themes) I have also thoroughly enjoyed smoked salmon bagel from regular menu on both occasions- very fresh and delicious with tasty accompaniments. Really lovely to have somewhere out of the ordinary and whimsical in Colchester. We will be back!More

I booked the queen of hearts afternoon tea for my mum as a suprise. Was really excited based on excellent reviews and the pics look fab, but I couldn’t help feel disappointed. Nothing looked homemade. Almost everything on the plates tasted and looked identical to...shop brought things eg the jam tart wasn’t home made at all- just a shop one with some berries stuck on top. The clock biscuit was just a biscuit from a box with a sticker on top. The sandwiches were nice- nothing special though and the chocolate scones were tasteless and stale. It’s definitely not worth the money and feel totally ripped off by the whole thing. I could of made the exact same for less than a fiver. Saying this, the decor is pretty and the tea selection is good but that’s all I would go for.More

This was a birthday present for a friend, I booked the Queen of Hearts Tea and it was fabulous. A huge choice of different teas (you can buy some tea to take away, too), delicious food and more than we could eat, we asked for...a bag so we could take the remaining cake home. However what really makes this a great place for a special occasion is the quirky decor - upside down teacups, Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter themed table decorations and beautiful presentation of the food. The only negative I could find was the chocolate scones, a bit heavy but we didn’t have room to eat them anyway! I will definitely go back and my friend is planning a treat for her daughter. Service was helpful and friendly, can’t fault this for a great afternoon.More

My mother booked a Harry Potter theme tea party for 2 adults 2 children for my daughters 9th birthday. When we arrived to a extremely frosty reception from the staff saying you booked 4 adults I instantly felt unwelcome. We was told upstairs in the...most abrupt manor. Then she explained that she was charging us for 4 adults. Saying I don’t care I’m charging you adult for the children. I was shocked I’d only just sat down. I explained there was no way that my mum would have booked 4 adults as was for my daughters birthday. She then began to get aggressive and proceeded to bad mouth my mother/my two children’s grandmother to us. I asked her on numerous occasions to stop as she was of course upsetting us all but in particular my 6 and 9 year old who had been looking forward to an afternoon tea. She even made me get my mother in the phone to which she shouted at her and then hung up. She then explained it was not her that had ruined it but my mother and to blame her. Which I was just dumbfounded by. I then asked can we have the deposit refunded and we will take her elsewhere as you can imagine we had all gone off the idea. Both children in tears her birthday treat was ruined. She refused to give me the refund back. Eventually after 20 mins of confrontation she refunded my deposit £50 and we had to find an alternative activity. Needless to say I would never recommend this cafe. Don’t get me wrong the food looked lovely but the Staff. Wow. Well I’m lost for words. Quite frankly I have never in all my life experienced such disgraceful customer service. I only ever leave good reviews I have never felt the need to leave a bad one before, but after driving an hour there to be treated that way and then have to leave with 2 upset children and have to try find them something else to do that would save her birthday from being completely ruined, I felt I have no other option. Dissatisfied customer would be putting it mildly.More

This was yet again a wonderful experience! Every time we come here the staff are lovely and kind! As a 12 year old child myself, I find it a magical time. I'm sure my parents find it as mesmerising as i do! We came for...the Christmas theme and for the children we have these cute little Christmas crackers! I am often a challenge for them as I do not like chocolate, but they always find a delicious substitute! My parents had amazing sandwiches and the range of different teas and soups and cakes they had was amazing! You definitely get your moneys worth. At the end we were brought up these polish cheesecakes! they were sublime! They were also an added extra treat! Thank you Cardamon Tea lounge. We will definitely be back in the new year!More

Impromptu visit with my mum and son, most of the tables had been reserved for what looked like amazing afternoon tea; however they were more than happy to accommodate a walk in. My son had the Alice basket and we had toasted sandwiches. It is...very child friendly with baby change facilities. Everything about our visit was perfect, fresh delicious food, great service and reasonable prices. Will definitely be returning to experience the afternoon tea.More

This rabbit hole in Colchester was a pleasant discovery for me. The outside did not give much hint on what a gem it was inside. The place felt comfortable as soon as we entered. Low chairs were used downstairs. We were led upstairs for food....The decoration caught our eyes. The lampshades made with upside-down cups and teapot, the playing cards and Alice in Wonderland quotes on the walls, etc. gave us a lot to explore and a lot to talk about. The toilet was clean and well-organised. That was a good reflection of the pride that the staff took in running the restaurant. Staff were friendly. We were the only customers upstairs, so the staff had to climb upstairs to serve us. Yet, we never felt being ignored. Food was excellent. We especially liked the cake, which was moist and fresh. (It’s a shame that we cannot remember the name of the cake; it had three slices of apple on it.) Cost: three people costed us about £21, which was good value. This is a delightful rabbit hole to visit. Definitely 5 star.More
