My husband and I went on an impromptu date night and struggled to get a table at any of our usual haunts so ended up at Bombay Cottage . It was busy but there was just the 2 of us and they squeezed us in. WOW!!! Food, service and atmosphere were amazing, prices reasonable and best of all when we were completely stuffed at the end of the meal they put what we had left into takeaway containers for us to take home and finish later......which we did and it was equally delicious a couple of hours later. Would highly HIGHLY recommend.

Just as well we arrived at 6.05pm as the restaurant was booked out. Great bottle of house red helped the Bombay chapati go down and then worked with the tawa lamb . Good popadoms and pickles. Good evening but no Amex.

We are regulars at the Bombay, however after the recent refurb wanted to write a brief review. The service is out of this world, led by Habib who is the best front of house man in Stamford. He has a knack of making all of his guests feel special with his warm smile and friendly demeanour. The staff in general are excellent and orders are taken swiftly without much waiting. The food is sensational, full of flavours and a significantly better than your usual Indian in my opinion. Would highly recommend anyone to visit.

This used to be my favourite Indian restaurant in Stamford, up until I ordered a takeaway last Friday. I am vegetarian and have been for many years, so I order on the phone and not via just eat to reiterate my dish is to be just sauce with no meat.
I ordered a tikka masala sauce and ate about 1/4 of it. The next day I went to have my leftovers and noticed pieces of chicken in the dish!! I felt sick and then realised had probably eaten small bits of chicken the night before. Ew.
I threw away the dish and the accompanying dishes because who would eat dry naan and rice?
I called them about this disgusting issue and they proceeded to imply I was lying, as they do not prepare the meat with the sauces. When I responded with the fact I have photos of it, they changed their tone and offered me £10 off my next meal there, I said this wasn't acceptable as I cant trust their food preparation practices anymore and I said I wanted a refund instead.
They accepted and I was told I had to come into the restaurant to get this refund, despite the fact I originally paid over the phone but when I got to the restaurant they tried to refund me only for the sauce, which does not cost must but I explained that I couldn't eat any of the meal and I was out of pocket much more than just the sauce. They finally offered a refund of no more than £10 and tried to give cash until I refused and then eventually I was given the refund on my card. The man was quite rude the whole time I was there.
Their excuse was the chef had got the order mixed up and this was the reason for the chicken pieces, its very obvious the dish was made with chicken and just plucked out before sending it to me. I am highly allergic to prawns and this would be a different story if it was not chicken being lazily served!!!
If it was a “kitchen mix up” then I would have had whole bits of chicken in the dish and this would have been a genuine mistake and could have been rectified.
Watch out, bad food preparation and lazy approach to dietary requirements and allergies.

We had been looking forward to trying this place since moving to Stamford, but sadly won't be returning any time soon. The prawn puri was not on a freshly fried puri but a pre-cooked cold chewy flatbread and the sauce was bland. The rogon mains was reheated chicken tikka in a sauce described as medium but we thought too mild; the (aubergine) brinjal bhaji wasn't too bad, probably the only bit freshly cooked. The service was offhand and inattentive, as if they wished we weren't there as they had a big group and were busy (to be fair it was Easter Saturday). When I commented on the 'medium' not being spicy enough when paying, the manager just said 'you can ask for it a bit hotter next time'. We thought it was overpriced, tired and a far cry from the excellent Indian in Oakham to which we shall be returning.

Visited on a whim. Won't be doing that again! Not much choice for vegetarians. First of all, the waiter brought 2 poppadoms without even asking how many we want! Hubby asked him if there is a vegetarian section and he pointed to the vegetables side dishes and said you can make them into a big plate. There's no way I was paying £16 for a plate of saag aloo so I ended up having rice and poppadoms. Definitely won't be returning.

The food has been great in the past but the takeaway delivery service is horribly unreliable. The website says deliveries can take up-to a max of 1 hour 30 but tonight we have been waiting 2 hours. You can’t get hold of the restaurant to check what’s going on, there are 2 numbers one rings engaged all the time, the other says ansaphone is full. We have no way of knowing when or if our £70 takeaway will arrive. Sad to say won’t use this restaurant again. Really bad there’s no way of knowing what’s happened to our food and 2 hungry teenagers. What a shame - very poor service.

The service was very friendly and the food was good, we had ordered a bottle of white wine and a bottle of sparkling water. Therefore we were disappointed to see a glass of red wine and a pint of cobra snuck onto our bill. We were going to give a tip as the service was friendly but due to blatant attempt to hike the bill, you unfortunately missed out.

Thank you John for taking your time to leave this review.
I would like to start off by apologising for our mistake we have done on your bill.
Let me assure you this wasn’t done deliberately we have been in business for the last 30 years and we have never practiced this sort of thing.
We do not seek for tips from our customers if given it is much appreciated. Our main aim in business is to give our customers quality food and service with an experience to remember.
Thank you.

We have a takeaway from here most Fridays. Unlike other restaurants in the town, the pots from the Bombay Cottage are always full. The food is delicious and very fresh-tasting. We generally have the garlic chilli chicken which has plenty of garlic and fresh chillies, and plenty of chicken and vegetables. The brinjal barghi is also incredible. It is very easy to order online from the large menu choice. I recently had an issue with using PayPal on my mobile to pay, and I emailed the Bombay Cottage to say that 3 payments had been taken by PayPal in error. Despite the restaurant being busy, I received an email from the manager within minutes to say that he had refunded the PayPal errors. My partner goes in to collect the takeaway and always says that he receives a warm welcome from the management and staff. I highly recommend the Bombay Cottage for both food and service.

9 of us, work related with different tastes and experience of Indian cooking
Welcome very good, and service all evening was exemplary
Lots of innovative dishes both starters and mains.. The fish starters both salmon and sea bass were highly commended and looked delicious. Some had 'plain ' options, chicken korma etc and some tried new options Lamb Tara etc. Everyone was very complimentary. Attractive decor excellent welcome fine food and big portions
A new addition to our local food options and certainly a restaurant of choice for my wife and I in Stamford.

I really wanted to give Bombay Cottage a good review as the food was generally, with the exception of one overcooked starter, very good. Our night however was ruined by an extremely rude unfriendly manager who waited on us and another surly manager who ushered us out the door without even so much as a good night, never mind a thank you for coming. There was one lovely young waiter but every time we spoke to him we saw the surly manager peeking round the corner as though he was spying on us which made us all feel extremely uncomfortable. We tried hard to be pleasant and chatty with the other manager waiter as he took our order but he could not have been less responsive. We also got the distinct impression they were not nice to their ‘non family’ staff. Unfortunately we won’t be returning. There are other good places on Stamford who treat customers far more warmly. This was a most uncomfortable experience!

Lee R, Ymo1965, VC1666 are all same accounts.
This is not your second time visiting you’ve been coming here for many occasions and every time you come in your embarrass yourself self. You try to haggle our menu prices like it’s a market stall and we find it very embarrassing and ignorant the way you behave inside the premises.
Not forget before lockdown we had to chase you from north street car park Stamford because you left without paying.
We barred you then and gave you benefit of the doubt hoping your behaviour has changed. But last Saturday when you came in again haggling with prices like usual, returning poppadoms and chutneys because of price, yelling to waiters about prices.
Your abusive language towards our staff will not be tolerated.
And once again your banned for life in The Bombay Cottage.

A first visit and of the three of us, one was vegetarian and one required gluten free.
The vegetarian had no problem making their choices and we were mightily impressed by how on the ball the waiters were with regards to gluten free (only the naan breads contained gluten).
All the food was delicious although we probably ordered too much.
Everything about our experience was a delight so thank you to Habib and his team.

We took three generations of our family to eat at The Bombay Cottage tonight and everyone loved it! Delicious curries, stylish decor and attentive friendly service. We have been enjoying take away from here for many years and it is consistently excellent. Highly recommended.

Family meal for four for my birthday. First time at this restaurant although it has been recommended to me before.
Entrance is small but clean. Nice welcome and we were quickly shown to our table.
First impressions of the restaurant were very good. Light, clean and a pleasant atmosphere.
Waiters were attentive and helpful. Drinks order was taken quickly and the food order was shortly after.
The menu is good, not as ‘extensive’ as some Indian restaurants but the offer to make on request may suit the more knowledgable dinner.
The food came in good time and was very good and no issues at all.
We had chosen not to have starters (just poppadoms and dips) which turned out well as the portions are more than ample.
Over all we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and never felt rushed at any time. I would personally recommend this restaurant if you like the Indian cuisine.

Wow, what an amazing meal from start to finish. It was my husbands birthday and they had decorated the table 💖.
We had the seabass to start followed by the lamb shank on a bed of grated fried potatoes and
Sylhety Chicken. We had coconut rice & garlic naan too.
The star of the show had to be the lamb 🙌🏻.
The staff were lovely and even provided complementary drinks to finish.
Thank you so much 💖
