Amazing food, service and wine! But be prepared to pay for the experience! The panelled dining room is lovely although in the summer there is the option to eat in the courtyard. We decided to stick with the panelled dining room as it is lovely.

I have been here many times since my last review. Simply becuse it is a superb place to visit. I know I wrote a bad report of a meal there, but that was just a hicough that could happen anywhere. The staff are superb in all departments and who ever interviews them and takes them on does a very good... More

Haven't been here for many a moon but felt we had been "missing something". BIG improvements in staff and service and quality of food second to none. Their "Trolley" Beef (Limousin!! Rack) was beyond superb. Cooked to perfection and carved as you like it at the table. Excellent selection of seasonal veg to choose from served on lovely hot plates.... More

A beautiful location for a summers day. We had lunch in the garden room. The staff have been there many years and as always the service was spot on. A wonderful warm greeting and great service from start to finish. We chose to sit inside as it was the hottest day of the year and wanted to take advantage of... More

A pleasant tea time with excellent cakes and good Earl Grey Tea. It impressed our Italian friend! Service was a little slow but very helpful and attentive.

Garden restraint very good, little pricey, but atmosphere is good, service OK to good and quality of food also really good. Main formal restraint is a little dark, service excellent, but over priced for what it delivers in my opinion.

Although the weather was not wonderful we were able to sit outside under cover in a very large and pretty conservatory. Staff although welcoming were surly and unable to provide a cold bottle of white wine! We were given two menus each to make a choice from but, told we must all pick from the same menu. I have never... More

We ate in the panelled room, which gave us a chance to put on our glad rags with a sense of occasion. A truly scrumptious meal from start to finish with fantastic service. The waiter even apologised and brought me an asparagus tip on it's own side plate when realising there was one missing. Such attention to detail rarely seen... More

You will not be disappointed. This old coaching inn does everything and in good traditional comfortable style. A large car park, beautiful gardens, a wonderful courtyard where Tom Jones or Moll Flanders might appear at any moment, superb oak panelled rooms and bistro and restaurant and the plush, plumped up sofas and armchairs for a snooze after lunch. I dropped... More

Stayed in a suite for our anniversary. The hotel itself is stunning in an old School non chintz type of way. What's strange is that as of 11pm just two guys run the hotel. Nice enough but just not enough. Come On the George. Up your game on the staffing front !

Thank you for your kind review, I am delighted you chose to celebrate your special day at The George and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. I am sorry you felt more of the team were not in evidence later on in the evening there certainly would have been more staff on the premises at that time. More

Description
A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George Hotel of Stamford, one of England's greatest coaching inns. A mix of regular locals and hotel guests can always be found relaxing at bare oak tables beneath an eye-catching hand-painted ceiling. In summer, or on mild nights, they like to sit outside under the heated canopy in the ivy-clad courtyard. Open for grand lunches and dinner, the George Hotel Restaurant serves traditional yet imaginative English dishes, specialising in seafood. Lighter daytime dishes such as Dover sole are superceeded at night with heartier meals such as rack of lamb with fresh herbs and redcurrant jelly, and roast English beef carved at the table on a silver trolley. Accompanied by traditional trimmings, of course.
