Absolutely the best fish and chips ever!! Chips were full and fluffy on the inside, fish was white, flaky and tasty and the batter is perfectly cooked and crispy. Staff are cheerful and polite. The shop is clean. And having the extra covered outside area to queue in, is an bonus on a cold rainy day. 😋😋😋😋😋

Best fish and chips in Darlington

The best fish and chips in Darlington. The staff are always friendly, pleasant and efficient. The fish is cooked to order for you , we usually get large cod lightly battered and it’s excellent, as are the homemade mushy peas 👍🏻😀 If you want to, there’s a online/ Telephone ordering service. It’s always busy, but we do not mind, because that’s the sign of a great fish and chip shop. Always… I’m in the queue especially if the food smells good. Here, they always have a constant queue of customers, (it is rare they are quiet) and everything smells delicious. If we’re not at the coast for our fish and chips, then we go here. 👍🏻👍🏻😋😋

My father loves the fish at this fish shop he sends me there everytime to get his fish & chips when visiting. I simply agree the fish is always delicious. The staff are efficient and I order on the app and always done for me on arrival.

So I had good things about the fish and chips at this place and thought I would give it a try. Big mistake. I ordered online on their own site for a slot just after 7pm. After I arrived 5 minutes before the slot I went to the click and collect counter and was asked to wait a few minutes while my order was prepared, fair enough as it was Friday evening and they were quite busy. 15 minutes later and my order was ready. In this time several people had randomly come in, been served and gone again. So having paid online I took my order and proceeded to leave. On going towards the carpark I was shouted at by the member of staff that had served me saying she had given me the wrong order. She had put someone else's haddock in and only one portion of cod. So against my better judgement I returned to the shop and waited for the proper order I had paid for. Another 10 minutes later I was again served and on my way. A sort journey by car home we tucked in to our delicious hot fish and chips. NO! One portion was warm as the other lukewarm at best. So in the air fryer they went. In summary bad service cold mediocre fish and chips and the council should crack down on all the parking on double yellow lines outside the place. Would I return....never.

Great fish and chips at a good price served by very friendly staff, fresh as you order. Can only go when in Darlington as this chippy is not near me but well worth the ride out to experience the fresh food. Good size portions to fill that empty feeling and leaves no after taste.

Recently visited Yarm road fish and chip shop and was not impressed at all very very greasy. Batter was soggy just not nice. There’s a fish shop not far from yarm road which blows it out the water ( located on firthmoor ) And this fish shop is located in Darlington not London the prices they charge are ridiculous not worth the money they charge very poor £1:50 for scraps on your fish n chips Wont be returning

Best plaice to in Town.

We regularly use this Fish & chip shop during the week or weekend .The products are not just fish chips. There's a good choice of other items and sundries on the menu to choose from. You can also book a meal online for myself. It's cooked to perfection the fryers take pride in the meals they serve the counter staff are very polite and helpful with a smiling reception.I would definitely recommend a visit it will be worth it ,if you don't belive my review look at the queue every day to get a lovely take away meal these people and myself wouldn't go back if it was a poor meal

I visited the shop today, although the shop is always busy with a queue of people I wasn't concerned to start. 9 people were in front of me waiting to order, i stood waiting 30 minutes to place mine, this was due to the shop concentrating solely on phoned orders, many times whilst i waited all three seving staff were dealing solely with these orders and little attempt was made to the customers waiting in the shop, a lady in front of me walked out due to the delay. Now i appreciate that ordering online is a good idea, however, the balance between customers in the queue needs to be addressed. Having worked in a fish and chip shop for a number of years I am fully aware of how quickly the queue should move.. Come on Yarm Road Fish Shop sort this out this balance or you may find that your nice big extension is wasted due to customers going elsewhere. On a final note once I had placed my order a further 10 minute wait was had waiting for my order to be cooked and boxed.

Poor service - disappointed

I've been once before to this place and was satisfied, so I returned a few months later but it appears to have gone downhill. Customers arriving after me were served before me and it appears that telephone orders were also being prepared first. I waited quite a while and when I finally got the food noticed they hadn't added salt and vinegar as requested (wasn't near home to add my own). Disappointed with that visit so I won't return again.

Too much grease left on very tasty food.

My brother picked up a big box of fish and chips for dinner about a week ago. There was a good amount of chips and fish for only about £10. The fish was delicious and was not dry or reheated and the chips were quite feasible also. The only thing that bothered me (personally) and made me give this shop an average score was the amount of grease that was left on the food. I picked up one chip and you could see how much glistening grease was on one chip alone. My brother and I shared one big tray. I could not eat very much due to the amount of grease. However, in my brother's opinion, the food here was excellent! He thought it was one of the best fish and chips he ever had. Had this review been up to him, this shop would have received 5 stars. To conclude, very tasty and fresh food, however it is a little bit heavy due to all the grease left on the food.

This must be the best chippy in Darlington maybe the UK ,the world 🤷‍♂️who knows. It's staff are friendly and the place is the cleanest and best run I've seen. The on line ordering is stright forward even I can use it . Finally the food is always nice , hot and on time (if ordering on line ) not much of a wait if just poping in no more than anywhere else.

Excellent fish and chips well cooked tasty cod well cooked chips. Optional larger haddock of cod if required . Had scraps which was great to see . Very clean shop with friendly and helpful staff. Parking to side of shop situated on a busy roundabout Cost was £8 for a portion that definitely filled you up

Poor service along with Cold Chips

Ordered Fish and Chips twice asked for scraps salt and vinegar. Staff service pooor all to busy talking among themselves about how long before a break and home time. Got home no scraps no salt vinegar and cold chips. Phoned shop to complain staff member put phone down. Phoned straight back asked for manager to phone me back. Yes manager did phone me back but said I had been abusive with staff member and made her cry (no I hadn’t been abusive,) Told him his staff were to busy making their own chip butties, instead of getting customer food ready. Overpriced, Cold, Slow service. Avoid at all cost overall Horrendous!,

First let me say we had Fish and Chips in Whitby at lunch time which I will also write a review for a comparison. We went here after hearing they were votes the 2nd best Fish and Chips in the UK in 2024 so we had to try them seeing as we was in the area, we ordered Cod and Chips and it was pretty good but mediocre, we was disappointed the fish wasn't very white and was greasy. Best in the UK? It's all down to a personal taste.

Fish good , chicken horrible 🤢

We ordered cod and chips and 1/2 chicken and chips. I wasn’t sure about ordering chicken from a fish and chip shop however looking at generally good reviews of the shop I thought I’ll give it a go. The fish and chips was really good however chicken was horrible, in fact I only ate what I could chew the rest I gave to the dog. The chicken was soo dry I could hardly get my fork in it. I’ve worked in a restaurant before where we prepared fresh chicken I can tell this one was definitely NOT fresh, in fact it was definitely sat there all day 🤢quite funny when on packaging it says “freshly prepared for you” 🥴 I’m soo disappointed, will definitely come back for fish and chips but chicken definitely stay away 🤢what a waste of money
