We had booked a table for 21.00 on a Friday night. We were really looking forward to this, because we had had excellent food and service there earlier. As we sat down, we commented on the music, which was rythmic, repetative and very loud. We...asked if they could lower it, but they refused and moved us to a table slightly further from the loudspeaker. It didn’t help. We asked for sparkling wine to start, and were offered a cava that the waitress said «tasted like pet-nat», which we found to be a somewhat strange description. The waitress offered us to taste it to see if we liked it and proceeded to pour us two full glasses. The cava was mediocre, and we really would have wanted something better, as it was a special occation for us. However, by then the music had become so annoying that I realised I would not be able to concentrate on the food, and would even struggle to hear my wife sitting next to me. We called the waitress and told her that we would have to leave if they were unable to turn down the music, to which she replied that was OK. She brought a bill fully charging for the two glasses of cava that we left unfinished. I really wanted to try their kitchen again, but when the staff prioritised their personal taste of music over the customers, that was simply not possible for us. Perhaps the other guests appreciated the music, but I seriously doubt that. Luckily Stavanger has several great restaurants to choose from where you are allowed to hear yourself think. We ended up at Fisketorget, which again was impeccable and saved the evening for us.More

If you think you’re going to a restaurant with white tablecloths and candelabra... If you think you’ll be waited on by someone with a stiff upper lip... Then you’ll be in for a surprise... And it will be a good surprise if you’re game/up to...it!! Food and service is fantastic. Service on the relaxed side!! Customers sitting next to each other might me strangers at start, but at the end of the night, you might have made new friends. Food as I said is excellent and wine is well paired. No menus... The cook decides!! We had so much fun and we were all satisfied after dinner and wine!! It’s an experience not to be missed!!More

We first went to Egget in 2015 and we were extremely impressed by the concept and the food. It seems after a while, the chef Anthony Orjollet left and headed back to France to start a restaurant there. We’ve been to Egget (the restaurant and...a pop up) a few times after he left and I guess “it’s never as good as the first time” comes into play. In July 2020, to celebrate a special birthday, we decided to give Egget a chance again. The concept is still more or less the same: a very informal restaurant with not very comfortable seating, the place can be quite crowded and quite noisy – and, as the sign says, there is no menu. This was a family dinner and when we arrived, there was a table set up for 8 of us. There were also two open bottles of Cava on the table and this shows a bit of the concept of Egget – no questions about what we really wanted to have instead they just put it on the table. We got some questions to start with about allergies and it did not take long before we got some starters. The warm bread had been grilled and it was lovely (I love fresh bread) and there was a nice taste of cumin. It was served together with something that seemed like just a green salad but when we moved the green leaves at the top, there was a very good crab and tomato salad underneath. It took a bit of time to get the next dish: a pan-fried cod in a mussel sauce. The cod was great, but I would have preferred if the piece were a bit bigger as it was excellent. The waiter came with two open bottles of white wine and we did get to taste it, but again it seemed like that was more of a formality and I would have appreciated it if we had gotten some questions about what we wanted. It took almost an hour to get the next dish: a pork neck dish with strips of pickled vegetables on the side. There was a distinct taste of the horseradish (where less is definitely more) in this dish, so it was not really my favorite. We got a cake as a dessert and it seemed like a cold baked cheesecake. I prefer the cheesecake baked and most of the family members did not seem very impressed with this cake. We rounded off the meal with some cheese and it was a varied selection. All in all it was a good meal and we had a wonderful evening but I still think there could have been more food - maybe a beef / bird dish before dessert? I am hard pressed to get excited about Egget the way it’s been the last few times we have been there. The informal setting is fun and all that but I would have liked an introduction or short verbal summary of the menu to begin with. It builds up the excitement of the dining experience. One of the joys of dining for us, is choosing a new wine to accompany the dish or have a sommelier share their passion for wine with us. So some sort of wine list or options for us to consider would’ve been a plus. Dining out in Stavanger generally has an average median price - it’s tricky to compare as there is no priced menu or indication of cost until you get the bill.More

The whole business model is different from everything I have seen in the restaurant so far. Is it team is serving up to six rounds of food which is handmade based on the ingredients they have at hand. One can take or leave or stop...as desired. The food quality is such is absolutely excellent although the Ambiente does not necessarily promise that. So this place really is one that needs to be discovered .... fantastic food and good wines are being served through competent and charming service personnel. I went here with my best friend for our annual road trip. We love good food and after reading a few reviews for Stavangers restaurants the choice was pretty easy. This restaurant do not have a fixed menu. You will be served 6-7 courses with...wine package. They do not tell you beforehand what you are getting so it is take it or leave it. As I have always been a picky eater this was a journey outside my comfort zone. However, I loved it. Every dish was delivered by one of the chefs who sat down and explained our course. We had 2 vegetarian courses, 2 fish courses, 1 meat and dessert. The wine chosen to these meals was nothing other than perfect. The bottle was left at the table so you could take pictures of the label or even pour yourself a new glass. They really know what they are doing here. The staff as well as the restaurant was very informal. Eating here is an experience so you better not expect any tablecloths or have anxiety about your lack of table manners. As the chef said when he served us our first meal: There are no rules here. I was happily surprised when the tab arrived. We expected a much higher amount since we enjoyed more wine than usual. This evening learned me a lot about myself and I will always have confidence in Egget as a restaurant. Looking forward to return and be challenged again.More

Great spot nestled amid a quiet street. The patio ambiance with the chef on the grill, music, twinkle lights and great food is hard to beat. We were offered the fixed 6 course menu and wine pairing and each course was delicious. They will leave...a wine bottle at your table and it appears that you are charged for however much you drink. I wasn’t used to this but the system works fine. I observed locals getting single plates or 3 course menus so those must be an option as well. I would go back.More

They only got one six course meal on the menu, however you can opt-out whenever you're full and only pay for the courses that you've eaten. They only serve bio-/ecologically grown wine, but they have quite a good selection. Loved their out door restaurant.

Great food! The fish was amazing and even tough I was looking forward to the meat course the best was the burnt cabbage that came along with it! We had very good wine along with it and were especially happy about the Austrian wine :)...Thanks to the staff for a very fun evening with disco light, bubbles and a great soundtrack! We will be back on our next visit. PS: Yes, it is expensive but worth it!More

Food at Egget is great, but if you take the whole wine package becomes very expensive. We paid almost double for the wine package than for the food. The experience was very good. The menu is fixed, but everything was excellent. Regarding the wines, some...were good, others ok. I would recommend to go, but avoid having the wine package unless you want to, of course.More

Great place. The curated experience is very good. The service is great, wine is exiting and the food is great. The chefs came to our table and told us about the cuisine we were having. Really recommend this place.
