we went to eat dessert and ordered chocolate fondant, but that was not good at all, then i ordered a juice and i was served a juice from regular supermarket with some ice in it, i know that because she opened the juice box in front of me and poured in my glass. or maybe i had higher expectations from... Hello RaidKhan. I'm sorry to hear that we didn't live up to your expectations, but find your review to be quite harsh. As for the chocolate fondant, it's home made, and not once have I heard anyone complain about the taste. If you like chocolate, you should like our fondant. Our juice selection might be what you would find in... More

We ate at Cafe Opera after we got off our plane and checked into our hotel, due to its proximity to our hotel and the decent reviews on tripadvisor. We both had burgers, they were decent portions, and were fine but not great. I thought prices were actually a little high for what we got. I think this place is... More

My Bacalao was too hard and too hot (like from a microwave). The fennel in the hake meal sour, probably preserved, not fresh.

Hello Sun...on I'm sorry to hear that your bacalao wasn't to your satisfaction, as it's a very popular dish here. I can assure you that we don't use a microwave to heat the food. You are right about the fennel - it's not fresh, but pickled, as explained in the menu. The pickled fennel is home made. More

We ate here three times for lunches and a dinner. There are two or three soups, one of which changes daily, which are tasty and reasonably priced. They also do traditional dishes like reindeer etc which are also good. The wines, for Norway, are competitively priced with excellent wines available by the glass. The service is attentive. On one occasion... More

Thank you very much for a pleasant review, Philip P! Returning guests are the best testament there is. We have three soups we make on a regular basis during the week: Minestrone soup (Mon), Opera's fish soup (Wed) and on Saturdays, our famous chicken soup. As you say, we also make different soups for the daily menu. I'm glad to... More

As any visitor will know, eating out in Norway can be very costly. The things about Cafe Opera, it really isn't. They have what looks like an academic clientele - students, teachers - and they give very good value., The menu isn't extensive but what they do, they cook well and the service is good. It's chatty, noisy, a bit... More

Thank you for a nice review, SMBurns. It seems to me that you understand very well the "Opera vibe". We might not have that many wedding anniversaries here, but from time to time I hear stories from guests telling me that they became couples and got married after meeting each other here. That's the kind of stories you get when... More

Café Opera is only a minute walk from the fish market, just facing the National Theater of Bergen. This is the place to mingle with the locals - not that you can mingle with Norwegians :)) - anyway, it has an authenticity vibe, cool atmosphere and good food served in an unpretentious way. You have to order at the bar.... More

Thank you for a very pleasant review, alidanis. It's good to read that you enjoyed your visit here. I'm sure you would have made good friends with the locals :) Unless you're Usain Bolt, you need five minutes from the fish market to Cafe Opera, but I like your attitude! More

We came for dinner and sat at a table. Nobody mentioned that we order at the bar so we waited. When we realized that we finally ordered. Then it took ages for the food to arrive. The food was good but the portions were small.

Hello "krausz g", and thanks for your review. The menu holders at the table says to order at the bar, but the staff should of course also be attentive to sitting guests. I'm sorry to hear that the food took longer than expected - at busy times it can take a bit longer than the usual, this is to be... More

We just had coffee and cake, and that was great. The guy who served us told us that this café got the first espresso machine in Bergen 30 years ago, and he has worked there for 27 years, and he certainly knows how to make an authentic cappuccino. It's an unpretentious place with an interesting vibe, no doubt due to... More

Hello hoganhogan, and thanks for a very pleasant review. Yes, we were the first cafe in Bergen to serve continental styles of coffee, and it has been a focus to serve quality coffee ever since. Who is better to serve you a great cappuccino than one of the veterans of our staff? Pleased to see you liked it here! More
