Mormors Stue is a hidden gem of a cafe situated just off the street with all the umbrellas hanging down. The staff were very friendly and the cafe itself is very cosy with outside tables and chairs and several rooms inside and upstairs with more sitting areas. A good selection of cakes which we were told are made by the cafe plus a good selection of drinks both hot and cold. Well worth looking for and paying a visit. And has clean toilets.

Was tipped off about this place last year and found it during a walk in the city center. Centrally located, good coffee, clean and fresh toilet, we enjoyed ourselves very much. The staff took good care of us even if we happened to enter through the back door, which felt good ^^ Plus on the edge was that we got there during the day and there were two in the party who wanted beer. Actually they hadn't started serving beer at that time, but since we went so far they fixed it for us, no big problem with that.

Stumbled across this sweet little tearoom which had great reviews on it's waffles. Just want the afternoon called for in the Winter! Highly recommend this for an afternoon snack :)

Pleasant staff, perfect old atmosphere completed with nice background music. I has the cake buffet. It's cheap, but the cakes are really dry and nothing special taste wise - just disappointing. The buns are a total waste of calories.. dry and tasteless

Ordered the cheese sandwich. Walked 30 minutes before we left to inquire. Yes, it will come right now, was the answer. Another 10 minutes passed before the food arrived. And there were strange things; two boring slices of bread with melted cheese and some taco sauce from a jar, something that can be thrown together in 3 minutes at home when you're short on time. The salad consisted of what appeared to be ready bagged salad. It was also expensive; NOK 150 for one like this. And as if that wasn't enough; the guy at the till charged too much. Stunned by the price, I did the math myself afterwards, and it turned out to be wrong. Went and complained, he at the checkout had taken extra (by mistake), for something that was included. Got money back of course. Herrejemimi.,.

As I review some of my lesser frequented places in Trondheim, the old Mormors Stue comes to mind. My wife said it was a great student hangout back in her student days. Unfortunately, I must report that it seems to be in decline and I think after tonight's experience, it is definitely off my list. There are two ways one could perceive this historic location (literally in a dark, narrow alley) off of Thomas Angellsgate. Either, as charming and authentic, old-time atmosphere konditerei, or, run-down, dingey, and shabby-chic dive. I will only say that I was not subjectively charmed, and both my wife and I noticed an odd, unpleasant smell as soon as we entered. I can see that it could have an old-timey appeal (the tight quarters, the corner hearth, the old tables and chairs). Perhaps in my Uni days I would have loved it. The main purpose of this place seems to be affordable alcohol for students. The food offerings looked old. Dry cakes, soggy waffles, sad wilted sandwiches. Moreover, the baked goods looked strangely uncommercial to me (that is to say, "homemade"). Nothing wrong with a rustic look, but the prices seemed set high for the appearance and portions. The worst thing however was the service. In a nearly empty house with no one in line, I was made to wait over ten minutes to get served or indeed even acknowledged. From the time I entered I was essentially ignored. The two employees that I saw were languidly doing things behind the counter and the kitchen, no greeting, no glance in my direction, no offer to assist me or take my order. After a reasonable amount of time, I started to think that I was being "punked" and became more interested to see how long this behaviour would continue. I guess they thought I was standing at their counter for my health. It was only after another customer was served ahead of me that I eventually got acknowledged. I understand that in a tipless society there is no incentive to provide good service, but it appears some employee training is in order.

Sometimes the best places are found by pure chance. Spending a day in Trondheim with a couple of work colleagues, both 'waffle virgins'. A quick search threw up 'Momors Stue', so off we went. It's not the easiest place to find, located up a bit of side street. And indeed we thought it was actually closed when we stood outside the door. But no, a quick peek through the window proved there was life inside. Walking through the door, you are straight into the counter. It's quite small, indeed tiny. But this belies the character of the building. It's like a Tardis! It's also quite old, rare to find a right-angle, and has lots of rooms. Even more upstairs. And an open fire! It's full of charm and character. OK, the food. Well service from the young last behind the counter was excellent. Freshly cooked waffles, lots of cream and jam, oh and a plate of traditional Norwegian brown cheese to sample too. Clearly the waffles were just perfect. Good value too (I always find it hard to comprehend reviewers who complain about the cost of things. If you don't like the price, go somewhere else)! It seems to be popular with the locals. Students with open laptops; friends discussing life over a beer. It just had a really comfortable atmosphere: unhurried; friendly. I loved it, and will be returning in February!

«Waffleplatter» sounds like more than one waffle to me, especially if its €7 ?? I don’t understand in what world ONE waffle is worth €7, unless it’s sprinkled with gold leaves or has truffles in it. I have been in many café’s, better, worse, but never have I been scammed like that.

We had just arrived in Norway and were dying for waffles. Staff at Thon Hotel Nidaros recommended this place and gave us directions. What a find! Like sitting in someone's house. Fun back patio (but we sat inside at a window). Great coffees and beverages and wonderful pastries. But the waffles were just what we had hoped for.

I absolutely LOVED this place. We stopped in on a late evening for some waffles and fell in love! It is the cutest, most cuddly place I've been to in Norway. Everything felt old, and just as it would be in grandmas house. I also loved the waffle - so good with the strawberry jam and sour cream. Would be more than happy to return on my next trip!

I went for the sunday buffet of cakes and coffee. At 89 NOK, it is well-priced. If you have a sweet tooth, its a good way to enjoy a sunday afternoon.
