We chose Havfruen purely by chance. So many options in Nyhaven, but we lucked out. An average restaurant will sell you a meal, a great one takes pride in it's menu and the selections they bring to the table. Havfruen is truly great. Our server...Rasmuss was fantastic in serving us an afternoon delight. We ordered the Salmon tartare, fish soup, and grilled chicken salad. The Tartare was delicious. While I have had more complex fish soups, this one was superb. The grilled chicken was also tasty and memorable. With Nyhaven offering so many options, our good fortune in choosing Havfruen was rewarded with a memorable meal and a high quality experience. I do recommend this restaurant above the other options available at Nyhaven.More

This lovely restaurant in a charming old building fronting onto the river was a rare find. The wonderful 6 course taster menu was an exciting fusion of flavours and every dish had its merits. For us though, the Turbot dish was its most exquisite! This...was the first day of the autumn menu and it has some lovely seasonal delicacies. The delicious oysters were served plain and with a smoked cream, both excellent and so fresh. The mackerel was paired with radishes and beetroot and had good flavours. The reindeer tartare was ‘melt in your mouth’ tender, and the crab soup served with warm bread was packed with flavours. The delicately flavoured turbot with its accompanying sauce was a winner for us. Our final savoury dish was a tender duck dish with root vegetables and a well balanced sauce. Our dessert had lovely sorbet packed with zingy flavours and was the perfect end to the evening! The service was unhurried and efficient and the well balanced taster menu, meant we had a really enjoyable evening!More

We had the escallop for starter, it was super good. And the angler fish main course was in same class. Really good food and we got helpful recommendations for wines to go with the dishes. Very cosy and authentic atmosphere in this place, and we...got very attentive and good service from the staff.More

My wife and I had booked a table for an evening dinner at this restaurant. When we arrived we were given the choice of a table by the window facing the river, or more secluded in the room. We chose the river option and had...a fine evening here. Being out for a seafood dinner, this proved to be the perfect place. Their halibut was just excellent, delicate and impressively prepared. They also served minke whale this evening. That one was also superbly prepared, very tender and mildly tasteful. We rounded off with dessert and the cheese platter was a great choice. If you are against whale dishes, go here anyway. There are other dishes to choose from and if you like seafood, you will be here for a treat.More

We followed trip advisor to go here. It was great. Very attentative staff, especially Tina. Every restaurant should have a Tina ! The menu is quite simple, not too much to choose from. It is fish, fish and fish. Oh, before I forget, the meat...choice was whale..... we skipped that one, though it is common in Norway. Food was delicious and we highly recommend this place.More

I had a very good dinner at this restaurant which is situated on the river and in an old warehouse. The restaurant itself has the a beamed ceiling and wooden floorboards - all of which adds to the ambience. We all had starters and a...main course with drinks. I had smoked salmon which did not arrive as one might expect, thinly sliced but came in a chunk. However the taste was delicious and the accompanying sauces on the plate made it a most enjoyable dish. My next course was prawns which came unpeeled in a litre jug with toasted sourdough bread. i did manage to peel all the prawns and eat them although it was a tiring experience when trying to have a conversation. My only criticism would be it would be helpful if one could also have a bowl of water to cleanse ones hands every so often as the small scented hand wipe was not sufficient. I cannot fault the food - it was very good and I hope that I will be able to return sometime, but I understand that the future of the restaurant maybe in doubt.More

Beautiful setting overlooking the canal. Lovely sophisticated yet informal restaurant design. Great informal, but perfect, professional service. And the fish was divine. My friend had the best very lightly smoked soft fluffy moist salmon I have ever tasted. My coconut and lemon grass fish soup...was subtle and perfect. Would recommend to young and old.More

Beautiful modern dinner spot overlooking the river. 3 course choices were superb and almost perfectly explained in English ("whale beef" was the "meat of the week"). Expensive by US standards but not for Norway!
