Kafe Asylet is an institution in Oslo found in one of the really old buildings in Oslo/Groenland.
They offer a menu mainly of different burgers and an average range of beer. Staff is service minded and athmosphere is intimate but the place is very noisy. Ok for an informal gathering with friends. Not a place for business meetings or anniversaries. Food is ok but far from gourmet. In summer the have a nice back yard. So - informal gathering grabbing some beers - ok. Dinner, celebrations or business - I recommend going somewhere else.

We were recommended this place by our airbnb host as we wanted something 'Norwegian'. We walked into a packed place which had a very lively buzz. It was warm and welcoming and room was made for us at the staff table which turned out to be in a brilliant location. The two girls, Jasmina and Ulsa (sorry if the spelling is incorrect) were so lovely to us and made us feel very welcome. The food was just what we were looking for - my son had the reindeer casserole and I had the trout. We left the place after a few hours having had a great night. Its the perfect place if you want to really relax and enjoy listening to the locals laughing. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we went back for another meal a couple of nights later.

Our final evening in Oslo was spent in this fabulous restaurant.
The building is so unique and has a lovely warm and homely feel.
My trout with potatoes and kale was comfort food at its best, full of flavour, beautiful white sauce, crispy kale and delicious potatoes.
My son and husband had burgers and both enjoyed them thoroughly.
Puddings were homemade and aloof very good.
Our waitress for the evening was welcoming and very friendly.
We will look forward to returning to sample more of the menu.

Had a really hearty meal here with friends, beside a roaring fire, just before Christmas. So very cosy! Fantastic friendly staff. We had big platters of delicious Norweigan fare (with the ubiquitous lingenberries, of course!). A great evening and would love to go back one day.

Quirky little place stopped in for a couple of cold beers sat outside in spring sun in the courtyard. Great friendly barman did not eat but food looked nice. Inside is very cool would go back to try food. Loved the frydenlund juicy ipa very refreshing

We tried 3 dishes, all delicious, the Norwegian meatball (meat cake in brown sauce with berries, herring with snaps and salmón filet all Fantastic!!

Went for dinner with my girlfriend as this place had been recommended by a friend who had lived in Oslo before. We ate in the backyard. My burger was very good, also my girlfriend‘s salad and salmon were extremely tasty. The menu is simple but offers a variety that should suit most people (eating meat, fish a/o poultry). It‘s self service, however the staff is friendly and attentive.

Groenland is a 'multicultural' (code for migrant) part of Oslo so this historic building, with a more traditional Norwegian menu, is a good variation. Staff are friendly but direct, the indoor areas are rustic and quite charming (the outside is beer garden style) and the food is relatively simple but good. The coffee machine wasn't working the night we ate there but they finally got it to work and coffee on the house.

This was our first food experience in Norway and it was amazing! The atmosphere is rustic and homey. It doesn’t feel touristy-more like where locals go. The prices are in line with Norwegian food prices, which are fairly expensive, but the portions are large-we could have shared.

One of the old buildings in Oslo. Nice back yard were you can drink and eat outside.
Pub with draft beer and pub food.
Nice staff and a athmosphere that make you feel that you are in someones home.
Nice prices.
Central place in Oslo near Grønland subway station and near Akerselva.
