About
Klosteret is situated in central Oslo - Hammersborg, beside the Deichmanske Main Library. The menu has a wonderful combination of continental and French dishes and the wine list is impressively diverse. The name Klosteret translates as The Monastery and there is a touch of the divine in the old brick arches lit by hundreds of candles and wonderfully calm atmosphere. A unique setting for a meal with colleagues, a romantic evening out or for guests from abroad - an unforgettable experience. The restaurant also has a Chambre Separée for private parties.

This place is very early 2000s in it’s strange own concept way. A cosy atmosphere as far as cellars go. Food is mediocre at best. But that’s far from the strangest thing in this monastery themed eatery. Our waitress had a very hard time making...us feel welcome and I don’t really think she had any experience from the service industry. Extremely hard to understand what she was saying, both as we ordered, and as she was presenting the underwhelming dishes. When we asked for a wine list, she told us “that’s not how we do it here”. We had to do the wine pairing.. which by the way was awful. I know what wine I’d like to drink. I can read. I’m an adult. Please let me order my wine…I definitely do not need someone without knowledge of wine to deny me a wine list. Did the tasting menu and (sadly) the wine pairing as a result. Not worth a visit. I’ll definitely not be back. What a joke.More

Fabulous evening. First time here, via a gift voucher. Intimate cellar setting, tastefully furnished. Great waiting staff who looked after us, and advised what we were eating and what to drink. Took the 3 courses tasting menu and was shocked at the very generous main....Delicious food, we left nothing on the plate. All in all a lovely evening and we’ll return on the next upcoming birthday and when the menu changes! Thank you!!More

Absolutely loved Klosteret! From the lovely and very helpful staff (the Croatian waiter in particular), to the gorgeous candle lit romantic atmosphere, this is now one of my favourite restaurants. The food was divine and the staff helped us pick a lovely bottle of wine...that really matched what we wanted. The ambience is something else, the mix of the candles and the low monastery music makes this place so special. It is soothing, beautiful, calming and simply one of the best we went to in Oslo.More

Restaurant was just awesome, ambience is romantic. It is corona time, and we had our wedding reception (for 12 people) in here and they accomodated us. Everyone was so helpful, was so nice, easy to talk and made everything easy for us. The restaurant manager,...Emma, was there for us the whole time. From menu, to planning, to helping setting the table. I have nothing but nice words to the people whoe works in this restaurant! Oh by the way - brunost is - to die for!!More

Took my wife out for date night on a dark december evening to Klosteret Restaurant. I would probably rate the restaurant as one of the best in Oslo if you are looking for a special date atmosphere as you feel like your savouring a great...meal in some old catacombs lit up by candles. We had the tasting menu which was generally good and consisted of very Norwegian dishes/ingredients and due to the alcohol ban during the Corona shut-down the restaurant serves a very interesting drinking menu with drinks such as fermented tea which tasted surprisingly goodMore

We ordered a four course vegetarian menu with a wine package when the first time we went to Klosteret a couple of months ago. The food and the service was excellent. The waiters are attentive and generous with both food and wine. This time we...got an email in advance that there would be no serving of alcohol, but they were open anyway. It was just us and the waiter for the whole evening - we were the only serving that night. They changed the whole meny a day in advance so that we would not get the same serving as last time. She had prepared a lot of alcohol free alternatives to the wine package and they were all excellent. Perfect evening in a wonderful atmosphere.More

I surprised my husband with dinner to celebrate one year more together, one year more free of cancer, one year more of being blessed with our little boy, for being alive and have each other. We enjoyed the night. We had a "koselig" night.

Klosteret must be somewhat of a hidden gem in Oslo. Having heard good things about it for some time my wife and I decided to have a romantic dinner the occasion being my birthday. The ambience is very nice and romantic, lots of candles, icons.... The food is a choice between set dishes or a la Carte, taste was Michelin star standard certainly. Seems to be regular change of menu. The restaurant must have amongst the best wine lists of any restaurant. It’s a few hundred metres from the 37 bus stop as you can’t really go here and not savour the wine (or I guess use a taxi.) The table service is unhurried but attentive when necessary . Absolutely top class.More

I visited Klosteret to have dinner with my boyfriend for our anniversary. The atmosphere was perfect, I felt really welcomed, special and well served by the staff. Regarding the food, apart from the starter which was ok to me, the two main meals were absolutely...delighting. Extremely Good quality and fantastic preparation. I enjoyed them very much. Cheese plus dessert deserve both the term "excellent". And even more excellent was the wine, red wine Cote du Rhone, simply amazing. I will come back to this place, and I strongly recommend it.More

As a French woman, I was very curious to discover this, as my chéri was eager to bring me there for my birthday. I mean... There was the risk of me unleashing all Hell loose from the heights of my Frenchy standards, y'know 😅 But...he was confident I would like it. And YES!!! WHAT A FANTASTIC PLACE! And the menu, and the wine selection!!! ❤️ This was very unhoped for, after years in the capital and repeated gastronomic disappointments. From the decoration, to the IMPECCABLE SERVICE, to the quality of the food... This was an enchanting moment and a great birthday present! Thank you for this, Klosteret 🙂More

It’s Norway so things tend to be pretty relaxed, as long as you don’t turn up in trainers (sneakers) and your worst jeans you should be ok. Jeans and a smart top/ shirt would be fine

As the others say, I'd say that if your children are a bit older and over the age where they like to play around then it would be fine to take them there. However, it's not what I'd call a family restaurant and I think that... More
