We had booked our table on new years eve online. Very convenient if you aren't local. The place was crowded, but not to much. We choose for starters the siu mai, the springrols and the wonton soup. They were very tasty. As main course we choose to have the crispy duck, also from very high quality. As dessert we had the mango pudding. The waitresses were friendly and our water was filled regularly without asking. Would definitely recommend to eat at this place! The prices are a little high, but you get high quality food in return.

So, the food is pretty good, not the best ive had, but a worthy competitor. The prices are a little stiff, but the waitress we had made it a fantastic experience. Not sure where she was from (not norway) but she made sure to keep our glasses filled and was very friendly, and made the experience a 6 for me. But food wise, it was good, the spring rolls had a nice tasting spice in it, and the japanese bbq was nice, but as stated not life altering good, but definately above the standard cheaper experience. It was not fully booked, so might be a little slower when full, but with the level we experienced i assume they would do their best to keep you happy!

Steer clear of GU LOU YUK unless you enjoy eating rubber balls. Hopeless to cut through.
All restraunt chefs have favorite dishes so I asked the waiter what the chefs would reccomend. Immediately she pointed to GU LOU YUK. So I ordered it. Never again! Totally inedible. Gave me the feel that nobody ordered it and they wanted to get rid of the portions they had already made.
The restraunt has tipical Asian decor. Looked very clean, restroom as well. Tables laid very nicely. Waiter friendly. Nice prices. It was packed with guests so hmm was I just very unfortunate?
I know one thing, sitting here nauseous from the experience. It ill take a long time before I revist that restraunt. If ever.

The food here was wonderful, and the service was good....but....
when you were contemplating a lower priced item, they would denigrate it, and push you to pick something at a much higher price point. But, the worst problem was the fact that they had a 25% service charge! Totally ridiculous!

Please don't misleading other peoples, 25% is VAT tax. VAT tax is available in every country, Norway requires VAT tax to be shown on bills. If you are not satisfied, then you can complain to the Norwegian government why the VAT tax is so high here. Also if you look at the bill it should be easy to see that this is VAT, not a service charge.

We ordered a set menu which looked tempting. The starter - was tasty and good. The two main courses arrived at the same time, which made one dish cold. Little food and far too little sauce for the main courses. Poor attention meant that it was difficult to get hold of soy sauce and more rice. Recommend serving the main courses slightly staggered. Hot food is better.
The tiramisu was icy cold, wet and tasteless.
Also ordered coffee which was more like hot water with a brown colour. Got a new one (this time Americano) with the same consistency and no taste.
It's fine to keep the dessert in the fridge, but in any case let it temper a little before serving.
It will probably be a while before we come back here, unfortunately. This could easily have been much better.

I am very sorry about the money I have spent there and even more to say so. I really do not enjoy giving bad evaluations but this has to be one.
Good thing: very centrally located close to Karl Johans Gate.
But: food was horrible and service somewhat unfriendly. We had the wanton soup which was just of almost no taste but 129nok which in my opinion then is far too pricey. We also took the Edelman’s which were totally over cooked and the tempura prawns which were the most horrible tempura prawns I ever had (only oily no crisp). Together with one beer we payed over 650nok and I really felt bad about it.
I am sorry but I’d never go again as you can eat the same quality much cheaper - even in Oslo.

The place is centrally located and probably receives many guests due to its location. Ordered appetizer and dumpings and thought it would be a full meal, but there is far too little food. A few small pieces of food will then be NOK 400 per person. Instead, focus on the main courses. Totally ok service, but there wasn't a smile to be found among the staff.

We ordered a 4-course company menu for 12 people. First course, a shellfish soup was served, the soup was completely lukewarm. Instead of sending out 12 dishes, I contacted a waiter and pointed out that the food was not hot. The next two dishes were served vat all equally cold/lukewarm except for the rice which was hot. In order not to spoil the atmosphere, we did not broadcast this either. The food has lots of good flavours, but dinner should be hot! Two days after this I emailed Mahayan and complained, they haven't even taken the time to reply to me!!! Very sad experience on my husband's 60th birthday.

A good client and I wanted a better lunch, and found this exceptionally pleasant and environmentally friendly Asian dining restaurant in the center of Oslo. Large venue, cozy interior, pleasant staff, clean and tidy, as well as a large menu and drinks menu. As a side dish, we had cashew nuts and shrimp chips, appetizer Thai beef salad, grilled scallops and wanton soup. The main course was the Sea's experiences, and Sa Cha Biff, as well as non-alcoholic ice cold beer, all served quickly, invitingly and explanatory. Wonderfully tasty meal with wonderful flavours, properly seasoned according to Norwegian standards, and with an unforgettable aftertaste. Rounded off the meal with ice cream to balance the salty/spicy, as well as fragrant aroma coffee. Recommended! die)

NOK 329 for a tenderloin that was completely cooked to death with tasteless side dishes and very sadly presented. Should probably be a signature dish. Embarrassing that this Japanese dish had found a place on the rich menu at all. My partner ate a tasty dish, but unfortunately spent a lot of time on the toilet afterwards. But they had Kirin and decent service. Hence grade 2.

It looks that restaurant Mahayana works really good. I felt safe and the required distance was kept, hand disinfection, very good service ... This time I had Peking Soup and Tempura shrimps with vegetables. Food was delicious! It’s perfect to run away from boring life and discover taste of China. Highly recommend restaurant.

Very good, good service, lovely food, very satisfied, we will definitely be back. We hadn't booked a table but we got good help. Very central, good atmosphere. 4 courses with 2 beers and a glass of white wine around NOK 2,000 for 2 people.

The food was good but the service was really bad.
we booked a table for 2 and when we arrived the host didn't even check the name on the reservation.
I think he gave us a random table.
When we got to the table the glass was dirty, there was a lipstick stain on it.
they took the order very quickly but we waited almost an hour to get our main course after the starter.
No one asked if the food was good or if we needed more drinks
After we finished eating and asked for the bill, we waited another 20 minutes before paying

We where so lucky to just pass by Mahayana Asian Dining on our walk.
We should see tha Waterloo show, and wanted a dinner afterwords. We love Asian food, so when we did see it, we booked it right away.
Mahayana have solid portions og food. The proportions of meat, vegetables and sauce was perfect, and the taste was VERY good! Our Polish waiter was very friendly, helpful with pointing out her favourites, with a warm smile.
This is a restaurant who is "easy to find" straight over from Karl Johan, and it is definetly worth a visit!

A very nice experience with friendly waiters, good food at a reasonable price and a wide varity of good vines. We had no reservation, the restaurant was rather full, but we got a table at the first floor which suited us fine since it had less people. This did not influence the effect of the waiters as we got their attention all the time. Our main course arrived witin 15 minutes which was very good with som many visitors. The courses were large, but tasteful se we finished everything, but sadly enough, no place for any kind of dessert.
A visit worth the money and we will be back!
