I recently visited Rorbua and I had the one of the best fish soups I can remember. But it was not only the food. The ambience was also lovely. Very traditional. It was my first time in Oslo as a tourist and in Rorbua I...actually find what I was looking for. I recommend this place.More

There were many restaurants to choose from along the trendy waterfront but we were in search of great seafood. We did not have reservations for lunch but it was not busy. Great decor with a boat used as the bar. I ordered the oven baked...salmon served with vegetables in a butter and wine sauce and it was done to perfection. My husband thought the large bowl of creamy fish soup loaded with shellfish was delicious.More

It was our last night in Oslo and we had yet to try reindeer so Rorbua it was! We were not disappointed. The place is a little touristy - not surprising given its location in Aker Brygge - but that didn't really matter. We had...great seats in what seemed to be a cabin stuck out the front, facing the bar and open fire. And lovely staff who looked after us very well. As for the food, we can recommend the cured reindeer starter - actually we can recommend everything we had: ovenbaked salmon, game stew (more reindeer with the bonus of moose), veiled Lofoten girls and creme brulee. All well cooked and well served. If only we had had more time in Oslo we might have come back for more . . .More

Norwegian cuisine, big portions, no complaint. The location is excellent, staff is friendly, a bit slow to take the order but very quick to serve the dishes. It delivers what it promises. Shrimps in huge portion!

We wanted to experience real Norwegian cuisine and this place did not disappoint. We ordered reindeer steak cooked medium rare which was absolutely delicious and a meat skewer containing reindeer, whale, deer and beef and everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. The whale was my...least favourite but I’m glad I tried it. We finished off with cheesecake and rhubarb crumble. Just perfect. The service was excellent and the prosecco and local beer was fabulous too. No complaints at all. Would definitely recommend a visit if you’re ever in Oslo.More

Rorbua is located on the culinary boardwalk in Oslo also known as Aker Brygge, tucked between Lofotenfiskerestaurant and, somewhat incongruously, Big Horn Steakhouse. The decor catches the eye from the walkway, with a wooden-carved explorer statue out front and a stuffed polar bear in the...rear room. Northern Norway decorations abound with pictures of coastal villages on the walls and wood from an old fishing boat serving as the bar. I ate at the latter on two occasions over three days, largely intrigued by the menu offerings which include unique dishes such as whale with mushroom sauce, a stew that included moose and deer, and an appetizer including cured reindeer with dill potatoes. I had all of these over my two trips as well as an excellent fish stew and copious amounts of Mack beer from Tromso. Service was pleasant, attentive, and engaging (thanks to Barbara and Emma!) and the price was reasonable given the location. I usually don’t review casual restaurants like this but Rorbua is an exception. The food was solidly above-average and accessible (I.e. unique without being weird) which along with the central location and ambiance made it a worthwhile stop. The establishment has been open since 1990 and if you count restaurant-years like dog-years, it should have folded long ago; they clearly have found a winning formula. Recommended for those who want something a little different when they visit the Oslo waterfront.More

A terrific local restaurant located right off the Oslo Promenade. I had the shrimp salad sandwich which was wonderful. My son loved the fish soup.

Ordered the “Taste of Norway” skewer which seems to be the signature dish. Was told half an hour later that the dish is not available any more and was offered the stew as a replacement. I accepted and literally 1 minute later the food arrived....I know the stew is already cooked but I would expect that at least the plating would take longer than that. Anyway, we were not happy with the food, the only poor experience in our 4 days in Oslo. Not recommended = 4/10.More

We were looking for a restaurant to taste both reindeer and whale. After some searches on the net I discovered this restaurant which was well rated and that offered what we were looking for. We had the opportunity to taste reindeer, moose and whale. It...was really good. Especially the whale that was delicious. I highly recommend if you want to taste these Norwegian specialities !More

Unfortunately, I don't know. What I can say is that I saw dogs walking in malls or in the airport, so it's possible to be allowed at least on the terrace.
