We ate here on two nights. On the first night we had the Wiener schnitzel, which was plentiful. On the second night we had the sausages in goulash, which was - er - interesting. Service was prompt and efficient. It was good value.

The Shoppingstreet "Mariahilferstrasse" has been recently redesigned and turned into a modern pedestrian area. The Cafe Ritter stayed as it always was. THANK GOD for that. A viennese tradition is certainly "Das Kaffehaus" the Coffeeshop as we still believe in haven a cup of coffee , be it Kleiner Brauner, Großer Brauner, Melange , Verlängerter, Cappuccino etc. etc. and not... Just looking at the dirty tables or rather the were they were cleaned, should have made me turn around and leave. However, being tired we sat for a coffee, which arrived some twenty minutes after we ordered while the place was not busy. It arrived cold!! No need to tell you more....

The cafe is well placed in the shopping mall and offers good coffee and free wifi. My husband waited here while I shopped which was a relaxing stop for him. The service was ok but could have been better as we had to track down the waiter for the bill.

This is one of those traditional Viennese places that's hard to stop coming back to! We came here a couple of times during this visit to Vienna (once to escape from horrendous thunderstorms outside!). Service is very clipped and polished, which is befitting of the establishment. Aperol Spritz is a must here - inexpensive and made very strong! Ideal for... More

Cafe Ritter might be a classic but the poor service and so so food quality should send you somewhere else. I might have gotten the mosts abrupt and pompous waiter in Vienna. I should have just walked out.

Old fashioned, traditional Vienna cafe with high ceilings and plenty of newspapers to read! Staff were friendly and sandwiches good with prompt service. Outside seating was popular and was always busy.

We needed to eat quickly to catch our flight to Croatia. We stopped here for a bite and were glad we did. The service was fairly prompt and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend this place in Vienna for breakfast or lunch. Would like to have tried more items on the menu.

The wiener schnitzel excellent and good value. The waiters were typical Viennese, indifferent. Though the apple strudel with custard was to die for, fabulous, and all at a reasonable price.

This cafe is a good chance to rest during your shopping through the Mariahilfer Strasse. You will enjoy the really good cafe in all fariations and flavours. As well as the cakes are tasting very well. Friendly and fast service is guaranteed, which brings me to a recommendation for everybody.

Thank Gerhard M

Staying in Mariahilf

Neighborhood Profile
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the center. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theater decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
