Great real authentic Viennese Restaurant. It was such a great surprise. Not easy to find, not turistic, with just deutsch menù, but with a really kind staff who translated us the menu in english. Really great food and simple, minimal, nice place. For italian people we suggest you to not taste the expresso coffee :-) but everything else expecially tipical... More

Maybe our expectations were too high, but there was nothing special about Grünauer. We found it on the Falstaff list of best Viennese restaurants and expected it to stand out from the crowd, but what we got was no different from many less advertised places. There is not much I can say about our asparagus salad with smoked fish (it... More

Dined here whole in Vienna on business...it was recommended by a coworker. Wow! Loved the atmosphere...great server who explained the handwritten German menu. Food was great...appetizer of spring roll of spicy sausage and red cabbage salad...entree beef goulash. ...and pancake dessert. With beer...wine...and schnapps. All very good!

This is where the locals go to eat and celebrate. Make certain to get a reservation as it was crowded even on a Monday night!!! We mentioned the owner's relatives in Missouri and he set up a table for us at the end of the bar. The menu is hard to read as it is hand written. There is no... More

Wonderful service in a small, quiet intimate setting. Food was very good, certainly austria. Menu all in german but waiters and servers went over each item in english. Reasonably priced for a beautiful meal.

This restaurant was recommended and serves very authentic Austrian food without being touristy. It was eierschwammel season and these appeared in a number of forms on the menu. Grunauer has a really interesting menu for those who want to try some out of the ordinary traditional dishes. The food was very well prepared, delicious and the service very good. A... More

My family and I visited here quite by chance on a recent trip to Vienna and had a wonderful evening. We hadn't booked but luckily there was one table free. It looked like most, if not all, of the other diners were locals which is usually a good sign. The menus were handwritten and all in German but the waiter... More

A lovely restaurant recommended by a friend who lives in Vienna. This is not a touristy place but the staff are gracious in explaining the German language menu. Traditional dishes - very well prepared. Definitely ask for recommendations on the Gruner Veltiner wine because some were outstanding - best I tasted.

1st of all, owner/ maitre d Chris lived in the states a long time, his uncle owns a restaurant in KC. English no problem, and his a truly great host.. Mother and wife in the kitchen, daddy helps son out in service. 100% pure quality cooking, no convenience. Great local wines, even a craft beer on tap.
