We stumbled upon this restaurant whilst trying other places (that were full). Apparently it's one of the oldest restaurants and hosted famous people like Napoleon Bonaparte and Adolf Hitler, We had the Steak in Broth which was excellent, the only drama of the evening was the waiter spilling red wine all over a lady on the next table ,but I... We wanted to go to Figlmueller because of the great reviews, but we didn't have reservations so we couldn't get in. We wandered around looking for a place to eat and came upon Lindenkeller. There was no one there and it was down some stairs and there was no one there, which made me think it probably wasn't very good,... More

food was very usual, even the schnitzel was so dry. But their goulash and beer was good. the worst part was the waiter. His english was exceptional good but when it comes to tips. He "forced" us to give him around 10% of the bill itself, at first we were planned to give him around 5% of the bill itself.

Down a couple of flights of stairs to the Lindenkeller and the true taste of Austria with local style and furnishings within the Restaurant area and a wide ranging selection on the Menu. We tried several items over our short stay in Vienna and can thoroughly recommend the Schnitzel, the Cordon Bleu and the Gulaschuppe all extremely tasty and well... More

This cellar restaurant was established in 1435 and is gorgeous inside. It serves very good, traditional Austrian dishes and is situated in the very centre of Vienna, not far from St Stephen's Cathedral. The portions are large and the service wonderful. Our waiter on our first visit was exceptional. He explained everything, offered us small plates to try a variety... More

Usually, restaurants close to the center of a tourist area (Stephansplatz) are pricey, have terrible service and have average food. Not so for the Lindenkeller. We were here for a business dinner and the food was good, the service polite and helpful, and the price was reasonable. You cannot come without tasting the schnitzel--and you will not be disappointed. It... More

Having got the bus from the airport to the city centre we decided to walk from the stop to our hotel. As it was lunchtime, we looked for somewhere to eat on the way and stopped here. The restaurant is full of old world charm and you can feel the history when you go down the staircase from the entrance.... More

This restaurant is very much a spot for tours and tourist, and does produce some excellent Viennese cuisine including the popular Schnitzel.

Restaurant just off the Stephans Dom. The entrance is more like a hole in the wall and there is a long staircase leading down to the cellars of the restaurant. From the outside small, inside very spacious. Service and food is very good and it is to be recommended.
