We chose to sit inside in the original café. The style and atmosphere was just as I remember it from 45 years ago, a relaxed place to have a coffee, a meal and read a paper or magazine. We arrived at 12:00 and had a light lunch of a selection of sausages and brown bread. The sausages were served in... More

Landtmann did not live up to it's reputation when I was there. The coffee was lukewarm, the Sachertorte was dry, the service sloppy and the bill outrageously high. This was the first and also the last visit.

Dear jjvanduijn, I am sorry not to meet your expectations. And I am also sorry, that you did not tell us yours complains on site. A Restaurant manager is alway on duty. I am sure we would have found a satisfying solution. Hot fresh coffee, tasty cakes and best service it that what we provide. I regret that none of... More

This place and its classical interior provides excellent food and even better cakes and ice cream. The waiters appear to be traditionally trained and take great pride in their customer service skills. We were very well looked after. A little pricey and but worth every penny. Not far from the rose garden where you can walk off those cakes you... More

They charge 7 Euros for a bottle of water. €7. That should give you an idea of the prices. Be warned. We went because of the history and we wanted a Viennese cafe experience. The place was pretty bland really. Aplestrudel was fine and coffee was strong. If you have money to spare then its fine but if you are... More

Dear Emma H, I am sorry Café Landtmann did not meet not expectations. Central located, Landtmann is a traditional historic Café since 1873. We offer best service, high quality products in an incomparable, stunning environment. Of course Landtmann is in a higher price level. In general our guest understand our price-perfomance ratio. But this is always a personal view. As... More

Knowing that historic figures such as Mahler and Freud came here, we decided to give it a go. We had coffee and apple strudel but were somewhat disappointed. The items were okay but simply too much money. Nice to experience a bit of history but the cost is too much.

Great location, great interiors, great service. Not to be missed, a landmark cafe. Widely known attractions like this establishment often run the risk to lose authenticity and become a tourist trap. Not with this establishment.

The location is very central and the view is very nice, so we had a real pleasure to sit outside. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the menu. Finally we decided not to eat anything and we just ordered coffee with cakes. We didn´t get the fact why the same coffee has different names and is served in different cups... More

Dear Kaldri, I am a bit surprises of your review. Maybe you confound Café Landtmann. Due to the Viennese coffee house tradition we do not employ females in service. So it is not possible you have asked a waitress for explanation! The coffee menu of Café Landtmann offers 23 different coffee specialities. 6 different roasts are carefully produced as espresso,... Not only does this Cafe have a great history and beautiful interior the food is delicious. There is a wide range of selection of cakes as well as mains. Despite the grand look it is actually reasonably priced. The waiters were so friendly. Makes for a perfect pit stop while sight seeing.

If the weather is great sit outside right across from the Parliament and people watch. Do not be in a hurry or you will be disappointed no one rushes in Europe. Linger over coffee and one of the many pasties (you will have a tough time deciding which one to order). It is expensive but is well worth it.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
