What more could one ask for? A small part of Barcelona right in the middle of the second district of Vienna.

We went for a couple of tapas and a glass of wine into this small nonsmoking restaurant in the 2nd district, and we were impressed by the lovely service and the quality of the dishes. The restaurant is small but usually there is no need for a reservation, since it's not located in a very touristic area, anyway calling in... More

When you think about tapas you think in Spanish food, but it tastes very similar in many restaurants. Katalonien food is it's maximum expression is what you will find in L'Asse. Pau is a great cook and will bring you the specialties of the catalan country to your table. Menu is varying monthly so be prepared for nice surprises in... More

Who would have thought you can get such great tapas in vienna. Chef is from catalonia and menu is written on the blackboard on the wall so changes regularly. All I can say is everything we had was really good and prepared on the spot. They also have a good wine selection and great beer. Very friendly and happy to... More

My husband and I spent a pleasant evening with friends of ours (a couple) at L’ase. You can sit outside and watch the activity at the nearby market square (Volkertmarkt), where families congregate after the shops close. The personnel is very friendly and efficient. The tapas were all fresh and tasty, but for us they all could have used more... More

We have not been to L'ase for a few months, due to a busy schedule, but as soon as we stepped in we felt again very welcome. Inside was a warm atmosphere, with a small group celebration and we were greeted, as usual, with a smile and kind words. I had my usual rose and my husband a beer, accompanied... More

New, small restaurant (although this may be too big of a word) opened in Vienna with Catalonian tapas and wine, run by a odd couple - Spanish cook (from Barcelona) and German waitress. His culinary provess and her charm create a very good atmosphere in spartan surroundings. Check it out, prices are mid-range (somewhere between $$ and $$$).

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
